Ok, here's what I did to get mine to work...

    Specs:
    - US Wii, Dec 2006 with 3.1U installed
    - Wiikey w/ 1.9g. Stock settings (installed and no disc was used to change anything.) So it should still be region locked and whatever the default drive speed is at.

    Burned 2 disc
    - DVD5 with regionfrii patch ONLY to US. Burned with Clone DVD at 2.4x
    - DVD9 with regionfrii patch to US 1st, then wiibrickblocker. Burned with ImgBurn at 1x.

    Procedure:
    - Inserted DVD5. Let update. Did the 10-15% method and unplugged. No duplicate channels appeared
    - After reboot, inserted DVD9 disc. Boots right up and everything works fine.
    - Tossed DVD5 away after confirmed that the DVD9 works by itself. No need to swap.

    Hope that helps someone...

Just burned the DVD9 and everything seems to work fine (no crashes, but have only tested for about 30 minutes). Here's what I have and what I did for anyone that is having trouble.

    Equipment ---
    - NTSC-U Wii
    - Wiikey 1.9g
    - 1.3 Config Disk for region override
    - NX (NextTech) DVD-R
    - Memorex 8x DVD +R DL
    - Phillips Burner (Does DVD-R at 20X and DVD+R DL at 8X)

I did the 15% trick with the DVD5 (got no dual channels and could still access the wii settings. I used the new BrickBlocker v1.3R2 on the DVD9. I burned both the DVD5 and the DVD9 using ImgBurn. I set the DVD5 to 2x write speed and the DVD9 to 1x write speed, however, I think both were written at 4x speed (I don't know why it does this and doesn't go at the speed I choose).

No problems so far! Good luck to everyone else.

Got it work 100% without trouble. I have a wii-u with all of the updates for the system and my wiikey.

    1. Burned ssbb iso without the latest wiibreaker and used img burn to burn it on my Office Depot RW + dl at 1x

    2. Instered it into my wii and did a FULL system update witht the game.

    3. Burned ssbb WITH the latest wiibreaker and burned it with img burn again at 2x on an Office Depot RW + dl

    4. Placed the game WITH the wiibreaker patch into my wii and booted it up without any errors or lagging; 100% working

    5. I did get the double channels but still can get into my settings so noting bricked on my wii.

If anyone needs help pm me!

I've been stuck for awhile now and figured it's time to ask for help before I waste another DL dvd.

    my wii:
    NTSC/u 3.1u
    D2CKey

    0. Burned 4.7GB rip and did the 15% trick.

    1. Burned a brickblocked (with the new brickblocker w/ DL support) copy on verbatim DVD+R DL with imgburn @ 2.4x and the Wii couldn't read the disc.

    2. Put the 4.7GB rip back in and did the full install and tried the DL disc again. Didn't read.

    3. Burned an untouched ISO with cloneCD at 2x on another verbatim disc. Same problem.

    4. Read that someone kept resetting the system until the Wii read it. I tried this, eventually this worked. Although it crashed just as the intro movie started. I haven't been able to get the Wii to read it again using this method.

    5. Burned another copy that was regionfrii'd and burned @ 2.4x with imgburn on the Verbatim. Wii still not reading the disc.

Any other things I can try?

I have a question on the reboot after the full update for DVD5. Did you guys do this disc swap thing to the DVD9? If so, how does it work? lol.

If i update my wii with the DVD9 version of SSBB all the way, then does that mean that I only have to make one copy of the game and not have to make the DVD5. I would think this because I wouldn't have to update with the DVD5 version, and not have to brickblock the 2nd copy if I update the wii all the way, and just get dual channels.

There are a couple of things that could be the problem.

First off, I have heard from quite a few people that the D2CKey is having trouble reading the burned DVD9 copy. Some people are saying that it is because the laser is set at 6x speed and it needs to be at 3x (I'm not really sure what all that means as I haven't messed with those settings, but if that is the problem then I don't know what you can do about it)

Second, what kind of Verbatim DVD's do you have? Many people are saying that the ones made in India are very poor quality and don't work very well where as the ones made in Singapore work much better.

Also, have you tried the swap method. Put in the working DVD5 until you get to the main menu, eject it, and put in the DVD9. I know it will be annoying, but if it does work then you can at least do that until you can figure out why it's having trouble just booting the DVD9.

The whole point of having a DVD5 and DVD9 is for people that were doing the 15% trick (like me). The DVD5 was just a cheap disc that you could use to start the update and pull the power, while the DVD9 was the brickblocked copy that would be used all other times.

If you let it update all the way then you have no reason to have multiple discs (as you don't need one to be brickblocked). In your situation you will be fine just using the one DVD9 you have.

Mine are from Singapore (checked that before i bought them). I tried to do the swap but I got an error message (green japanese text, not sure what it said). I did it at the title screen right after the intro movie that wants you to push any button.

Ya, I've been reading other forums that are suggesting it's something to do with the laser and that the swap method is working for them. I sure hope this isn't the case for all DL games and the D2Ckey.

    To Square:

I couldn't get the swap working either with the DVD9. The error message in Japanese is the system asking you to put the disc back in - I performed a swap at the main menu, and the game worked until I loaded a movie from the archives and it promptly froze... Mine at least reads the DVD9, but crashes before the intro movie loads at all =/

Those of us with D2CKey might just be screwed until a new fix comes out :(

So the D2Ckey isn't working at all with the DVD9? What if you perform the full update rather than try the swap method?

Does anyone else find it ironic that the wiikey can play the DVD9 backup but not the origional and the d2ckey can play the origional but not the DVD9 backup?

Just thought I'd comment on that. Seemed funny to me. :p

I don't know how to do the full update, as mine didn't finish (as far as I can tell) and yet neither DVD5 or 9, brickblock or no brickblock, even tries to bring the update up anymore. I didn't swap by design, I was forced into it when my update crashed...

So the update just crashes when used on a D2CKey? Makes me wish I had an older generation Wii. So, D2CKey works with the actual game but not the backup...weird.

Two quick questions: has anyone actually had their wii bricked attempting to do this? and secondly, is there any way to avoid burning the dvd5 iso and just use the dvd9?

    Currently Running
    Wiikey with update 1.9g
    pretty sure 3.1U

    Thanks guys

Sorry but to the second question you need to burn that second disk unless you want duplicate channels or a messed up system setting screen. Really a dvd5 is like $1 im sure you can afford that if you wanna play the game so bad...

As long as you have 3.1U, then you shouldn't have to worry about bricking your Wii. The worst that has happened is people not being able to get into their Wii Settings.

Here are some options for you if you don't want to burn the DVD5...

--- If you don't care about getting double channels ---
Just burn the regular DVD9 (you can use regionfrii if you don't have your wiikey set to region free), let it update all the way, and then use the disc to play the game.

--- If you don't want double channels ---
You will need one regular copy of the game (either the DVD5 or DVD9) that is not brickblocked (can be regionfrii'd) and you do the 15% trick with that disc. Most people use the DVD5 for this as the DVD5 is cheaper and you will never use this disc again. Then you will need a second copy of the game on a DVD9 that has been brickblocked. The brickblocked copy is the only copy that you will need after doing the 15% trick.

Hope that clears things up a bit.
