DvdFab Platinum - FixVts - Imgburn

    Nice copy.

I found myself giggling a couple times. It's kind of funny.

Yeah, it was easy enough to do. Dvdfab platinum - fixvts - dvd shrink - then burn.

I tried DVDFab Platinum 5. It doesn't register the dvd in the drive. What am I doing wrong? Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Why are you using FixVTS? I use DVDFab and Image Burn without any issues.

I use the same process without variation (you never know what may happen if you skip a step) even if it may not be needed.

Rip as dvd9 with dvdfab (even tho I paid for dvdfab platinum).

Run fixvts (always use, no matter how easy it was to rip).

Shrink with dvd shrink (again, I have dvdfab platinum, but still use shrink).

    Then burn.

I have been reading some people prefer VobBlanker instead of FixVTS. Can someone explain why?

It was mentioned to me that fixvts would be good to use after ripping with dvdfab before using shrink. VobBlanker I really can't tell you, as I haven't used that program at all. From my understanding, they basically do the same function.

Basically people are using FixVTS or VobBlanker even if the rip was successfull without any issues. I just want to make sure I am not missing any information about the process.

It was mentioned that sometimes, even after a sucessfull rip with dvdfab, dvd shrink may still have a problem processing the results. Fixvts 'cleans' or 'tweaks' the end results making it easier to use shrink to compress.

I've even had the fixvts file sometimes a few hundred megabytes less.

Maybe that is why I do not have any problems with my rip and backup of my DVD movies. I only use DVDFab to rip (Main Movie) and Image Burn to Backup. If I need to compress, then I use Nero Recode to process the compression and burn. I feel that Shrink is an outdated program just like DVD Decrypter.

I rip the entire disk, minus the foreign language and foreign captioning. I haven't touched nero in over a year, didn't like it and had another program that has worked well for me for the past 3 years. Dvd shrink may be old, but it still is a very good at transcoding/compressing a movie.

I still do not understand a reason to use FixVTS or VobBlanker if the rip is a success. It seems like a waste of time to use those products.

vob blanker is a powerful editing tool that allows one to selectively blank uwanted items. Also and more importantly, it helps more so than fixvts to correct TOC (table of contents dvd navigational and guidance directions). W/O correct TOC guidance pointers, a dvd can have extreme playback difficulties. This is what perhaps you are expierencing in a successful rip (with poor TOC pointer guidance) and burn. This is why I use vob blanker religiously.

I rip the main movie only without menus and any other unwanted items. Most of the time I do not need to compress the files as for the need of shrink or recode.

Even a movie only has navigational and directional pointers (that may need correction) as I understand, so vob blanker still a plus

I still do not need the use of VobBlanker or FixVTS if I do not have any problems with my rips. I have ripped over 100+ and have not need the use of FixVTS or VobBlanker, am I missing something that FixVTS or VobBlanker needs to be done I can not see in the final backup of my DVD backups. When I play them back on my DVD player it is perfect.

If your rips are fine, leave well enough alone. If the rips in the future are problemmatic, you will already know the fix.
