Hello everyone! I'm pretty new to the xbox-homebrew scene and having a problem with Surreal64: Games don't load using Surreal64 v1.0, the roms show up and all, but they won't load. I select a rom, for example Super Mario 64, then i press A and it says: Saving settings, then another thing, then i can see very briefly something with loading and 0%, but it just kicks me back to the menu, like it reboots Surreal or something. BTW: When i click on a rom it shows 4 things, 1 white bar (when cursor is supposed to be there, cursor disappears, when i move it down it reappears), 'Add to favourites', 'Configure Rom Specific Controller Settings' and 'Configure Rom Specific Settings' I've tried multiple roms (about 10) and none worked, they where all checked by GoodN64. I've also tried using SurrealXXX 4.9, roms also showed there, games loaded fine, but after loading it gives me a black screen (that's why i tried v1.0). Running x-box modded with Aladdin Advance (Xecuter2 bios), bios version (as stated in the ms-dash): 4980.06. I'm not using Evo-X or any other dash, just M$. I first burnt SurrealXXX with all the roms onto a DVD, above noted the results. Then burnt the Surreal64 v1.0 to a cd-r (Samsung drive). Both burnt using Craxtion4. The ini setups: SurrealXXX D:\Roms and D:\Media Surreal64 v1.0: A:\Roms and D:\Media I believe they are correct (otherwise i shouldn't see any roms etc. right?) Can someone please help me get this to work? Thanks in advance!
I think (and I may well be wrong) that the emulator is hard coded to run from the hdd. It seems to be crashing because it's trying to write settings into a folder in the emu but is failing because there isn't a folder to write to (access denied..cd read only).. Try installing the emu and a couple of roms on the hdd and try again. You should be able to play the roms off a disk but the emulator as far as I know doesn't work from anywhere but the hdd..
Thanks for your reply! But i sincerely believe it can be run of dvd/cd. The original author even stated that in his installation notes. You can set the rom and media path, if it is set to D: than it is in the same folder as the emu, if it is A: the it is on a dvd/cd. Other paths are like E: are for hdd. It creates a savegame for the program, that's where it saves settings etc. (works), there is nothing else to write (maybe something temporary, but it will write that to hdd, that part is hard-coded). It isn't going to write anything in the directory of emu itself, thing to write (like savegames or temp data) are hard-coded to write somewhere on the hdd. I can't exactly test it on hdd (would make testing a lot easier!) because i only have a wireless router and the x-box isn't anywhere near a pc, so direct link is also not an option. But i'm almost certain that it can be run from dvd/cd. Does anyone have another idea? Thanks in advance!
