    Hi Guys n Gals

Got a minor irritating problem with my new SV3 superbox and wondering if anyone else has the same problem.

It's with respect to the aspect ratio - I have 6.01eE firmware loaded, the user set up is set to 16:9, I have a WS telly, but I am losing the side edges to my picture. Using the blue button to switch between letterbox and full screen does not fix it. I can remember this being a problem with the original SV1 and the 2.59 firmware, then a fix came out and changed the user setting from 16:9 and 4:3 to letterbox and fullscreen. The problem is more visible when viewing santana sports news channel as you lose the half the score table on the side of the screen. I have put my SV1 box back on and that does not have this problem, I can se all the picture on all channels regardsless of what aspect ration they are transmitted in.

Wondering if the software guru's out there can look at this, maybe there is a conflict in the software code, as the user setup selects 16:9 and 4:3 and the blue button selects letterbox and fullscreen.

    Regards to all

    Benji

Sorry to say most channels are broadcast in 4:3 with letterboxing so look crap on a widescreen TV. As long as the Starvi*w is set to 16:9 and the TV the same then that's the best you will get until the channels get their act together.

In order to test your widescreen tv on 16:9 is to set the SV on fullscreen put it on bbc news24 which is correctly broadcast in 16:9 and this particular channel transmits the correct pids picked up by the box and sent to the tv which displays the full widescreen image.

Many programs on cable are still transmitted as 4:3 or 14:9 not 16:9 and so if you are using a widescreen tv that is set for 16:9 the picture will not fill the screen. If you switch the SV to fullscreen the picture will then fill the widescreen tv but the image is sampled to fill the screen but is compressed and flattened. This is an incorrect setting and there wont be a fix for that apart from understanding that it is not meant to fill the screen unless the program is broadcast in 16:9. What is shown on your tv, is the settings on the tv adjusting for the SV's failings.

    Thanks for the repies

but on my SV1 the picture on all channels is fine, I can see all of the screen. On letterbox I sometimes get a black strip top and bottom dependant on broadcast screensize, but always get full width viewing. This is a problem encountered since I got the SV3.

Try this ...Press Menu > User Setup and see what the TV Type is ( Auto , Pal , NTSC) Choose Auto then NTCS and finally PAL , and put it on 4:3

Had a go at all that, makes no difference what so ever. picture just gets narrower. I am sure this is going to need the software guru's to sort out, just had my mate on the phone, he has the same problem with his SV3.

pressing the blue button on mine only makes the screen narrower/wider the picture still remains cut off at the edges.
