Not all standalone DVD players will play SVCD. My "guess" would be about 20-30 percent of all standalone DVD players support SVCD. The best thing to do would be to check the DVD player's documentation, box it came in, or manufacturer's website. Secondarily, you could check: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers , Make sure you read the user's comments as they provide a wealth of additional information, and sometimes explain under what circumstances they got something to work.

    C'mon DELA, You're joking right?
I also had the same prob's. Burned the SVCD-file and tried to play it on my dvd. well, . . . FAT CHANCE. Seems my dvd-player (2,5 years old) doesn't read SVCD. On the display i only see a VCD-icon with these letters.
I had to encode the movie back to VCD to play it.
So, no way i can play svcd on my dvd-player.
