When playing SVCD or VCD mpg files in MS Media Player 9, a small symbol (containing 8 white squares & a blank one) appears in the top right hand corner of the screen. 2 questions:

    1) Is there any way to make this symbol go away?

    2) Just recently, this symbol has been bouncing erratically around the screen. Does anyone know why this has started to happen or how to stop this erratic motion?

    Thanks

Not sure but I think it just says you downloaded the file or it's copyrighted. Anyway if you burn the files to a CD you shouldn't get this when playing back in WMP. Try also playing with Winamp or your DVD player instead.

Thanks for your reply. I realised the white boxes were from a codec installed with the Klite codec pack (I think Elecard). When the trial period on the codec expires, the boxes start jumping around.

By uninstalling the KLite codec pack, the jumping white boxes have gone.

I have noticed this on the videos I encoded with Mpeg2.
