Do more DVD players play VCD or SVCD and if my DVD player doesn't play VCD's, is it possible that it can play SVCD. And also, my DVD player doesn't play CD-R's, but it says it plays Video CD's: how is that?
Actually the truth is that most dvd stand-alones will play vcd and not svcd. As for not playing cd-rs and playing vcd's, this is because you can actually buy normal vcd's (usually off the net) that are made by the movie company themselves and sold for a little less than dvd's are! If I were you then I think I would sell the dvd player you have and buy another one that is compatible with cd-rs' I would recommend a samsung as a good choice!! My samsung stand-alone will even play mpg files just thrown on a cd. It will say PLAY when i put in a divx but it wont start playing :-(. That was a pain in the ass cause i thought it was actually going to play my divx (Some Hope!!!)
