I am newStarview user, Just got a Starview PVR and want to organise my channels with SVCE, I have downloaded SVCE to my laptop which does not have RS232, so I have connected the PVR with the null modem cable via a usb to RS232 adaptor. When I open "my computer" my PVR is not there. How do I connect and access the pvr/data to create a channel dump, can it be done using the USB port on the pvr, Any help appreciated
Hi SCVE runs and connects/transfers via rs232/null modem cable NOT usb so you won't see it in 'My Computer' you need to install the driver for the usb adaptor/converter then look in device manager to see which Com port has been allocated by the driver then set same Comport in SCVE to connect it with your Starview. You then upload/download/edit your list with the SCVE software. BTW you can backup your Chan list data to your PVR's Hard disk from the menu system (if you have one fitted yet) jbvid
jbvideo, Thanks for your reply I have installed the Adaptor Driver but Ports are not listed in the Device Manager. The Adaptor is listed in modems (Motorola Comp Modem) and if I open its properties it shows Port: COM6 How do I set same Comport in SCVE to connect it with my Starview. Apolgies for my ignorance but I could really do with a step by step guide to connecting my Starview to my pc. BTW I have a HDD fitted can I upload/download/edit my list with the SCVE software via the HDD using USB connection.
Hi I hadn't used SVCE and after looking at it, it seems the only way is to load a .bin or .dat file into it via USB, I assumed it would be via Com port. The .bin or .dat file would come from your hard drive after saving it there via the menu system. A lot of people have connection problems with USB so don't be supprised if you do. The USB line is only used as an alternative to rs232 for loading new firmware into the box as well as transfering the channel .dat files. It tells you how to rs232 and usb connect/load in the documentaion folder link. I think its best to take the route I did by editing the channel list first using the menu system to your requirements,It only need doing once then once you are happy save it to the Hard drive using the menu system, the backups are then listed automatically by date and are .dat files. jbvid
I have figured out how to use the SVCE using the HDD via USB; Connect STB to pc with usb cable Go into STB Menu, Change HDD to PC Mode, On PC enter firmware folder on STB HDD, Copy & Paste Channel Data Back up file to pc Open Channel File in SVCE, Sort & edit and rename file Copy & Paste edited file back to STB HDD firmware folder In STB menu change HDD mode back to STB Enter HDD interface menu and select Channel upgrade from HDD Select Edited Channel File, Press OK This only works if you have a PVR with HDD fitted so I would still be interested if someone could tell me how to find the Ports in Device Manager (not listed after installing adaptor driver) using a RS232/USB adaptor, I have tried this method but get as far as uploading and the upload fails. Thanks for your replies
Hi I have read from others with problems that some drivers don't install to the Com Ports or show up in Ports but to Modems and other areas, so try looking in other areas in device manager for your driver. jbvid
Can anyone help me Ive done everything possible on this thread but still no joy. Im looking to do a channel dump to pvr loader from my pvr but it keeps coming up as "flash update fail". Im using usb-null modem, dont think this is the problem as I asked the guy in maplins n he said it works with all starview boxes. I have set the com port and the baud rate but still nothing. Any help??? Thanks in advance
