I recently received a 360 from my Uncle that can turn on and play arcade games and navigate the dash but can't successfully read discs. So I open it up today to find the laser and the whole plastic thing surrounding it, broken off the drive mount. So here's my question, am I better off replacing the laser or do I just buy another Hitachi 78FK drive and put it in? If I put the new Hitachi drive in, do I still have to get the keys from the old one? Whichever is less of a pain in the ass, I'd prefer lol. Thanks alot

The 78fk is IMO the easiest drive to read/write to, use the slax cd method!

thanks that helped none. I already have a SLAX cd and know how to mod the firmware and shit. I'm just asking if I have to do a drive dump or get the keys off the original.

exactly what i was going to tell him, lol. however, if you do choose to just replace the entire drive, yes, you do have to obtain the original drives orig.bin and flash it to the new drive.
