I've searched around but couldnt really find anything that simply states my question.

I have a 360 with the Liteon 74850c drive and I don't have the connectivity kit or a probe to flash it with. I do however have a stock BenQ drive laying around, could I flash that and then put it in my current xbox? Or would that brick it since it isn't the original Liteon?

    Thanks!

replacing 1 drive with the other does not brick the 360. If you want swap a drive with another version of DVD drive you will have to spoof the drive. you will have to get the probe because first you have to dump the key from the Lite-on and dumping the Key without the probe is not possible. once you have the key from the lite-on then there are plenty of tutorials on the web of how to spoof a drive.

Yea, that's what I figured :( Well, guess I can spend $15. No sense in being cheap about it. Thanks Farrukh

Actually the kit is $35-$50. I'd recommend a Xtractor Pro over the CK3, unless the ck now has usb.

I was actually going to use the Taio USB probe to do it. I found a goog tut where you don't even need a connectivity kit.

...or does that no longer work?

Unless you want to solder, then you don't need the kit for the lite-on's only. Otherwise, you need the kit.
