I'm frustrated with my old chipped PS1. It's the first model released, therefore it skips like hell on FMV.
I have a virgin slimline PS2. I'm going to be ordering a flip-top, swap magic and breaker pro from Modchip.com (I used this site to choose them)

However, my question is if this will work with the Bemani Append discs on PS1 games. Those require a swap. (Example: Boot Beatmania, then I choose Disc Change, put in 3rd Mix, close, hit start and continue)

I haven't been able to get a good reply on if those will work. I know some of them detect the modchip in my PS1.

And yes, these are legit copies. I know there's cracked versions out there, but I'd like to avoid resorting to those.

if its a multiple disc game that doesn't let you save before asking for another disc, it won't work.

Then on that note, anyone know where I can buy a JPN PS1 for cheap?

Well, it's gonna be pretty hard to find a Japanese PSone now-a-days. You can try lik-sang.com or play-asia.com and see if either of them get one in stock again, but it's doubtful.

You do know you can get a mod-chip for your PS2, that'll allow it to play both PSX and PS2 backups, as well as imports without the need to swap discs, so multi-disc games are no problem!

Check out this FAQ, it'll give you some Pros and Cons on all back-up methods:

It's a slimline. I only know one guy who would do it for me and he has a 2/4 success rate. I suck at soldering, considering I've never done it, and I don't think a slimline is a good one to start on.
Any Seattle-area places? I suppose I could always hit up Loki n Umo...

At the bottom of Tokijins FAQ that I linked, is a list of some reputable mod installing services. They're all mail-in however. But since you live in the continental US, there shouldn't be any majors problems, unless you feel uncomfortable mailing your PS2.

If your slim PS2 is the V12, it's also highly recommended to get some type of laser fix along with the modchip. Because any burned media stresses the laser, and the V12 are notorious for burning out.

Well, the fliptop mod came. It went in just fine.
However, the Beatmania disc doesn't load with the Breaker Pro. The disc just starts spinning, then slows down and repeats.
I tested another game and it worked perfectly. They're all legit. Not even copies. Any ideas why it not load Beatmania?
