When i owned a ps2 i just left the switch on in the back. Is this ok?

What is the purpose of the switch on the back.

if you would want to save money i would advise you to turn it off from the back. the ps3 uses alot of power even when on standby

He's right. However, if you turn the switch off in the back it can't be turned on remotely. Standby is okay by me.

I may start turning it off only because of all the damn idiot lights that are on in my bedroom.

There's the red standby light of the PS3. There's the orange digital clock on my HD cable box. There's the incredibly bright, basically a flashlight for the OFF position of my Olevia HDTV (yes, that light only shines when the TV is OFF). Then there's the orange light switch on my surge protector. Finally, if I leave my PS3 on to work for Folding @ Home, then the Playstation Eye's blue light is on as well.

That's 4, possibly 5 idiot lights that are shining as I attempt to sleep. To hell with 1.5 watts of electricity, I want my sleep!
