    Help!

Pop-up boxes saying to install SysProtect keep appearing and redirecting me to buy WinAntiVirusPro...

Data Execution Protection keeps appearing, and shutting down explorer...

and Media Center now won't play my Video's, complaining of
"Video ErrorFiles needed to display video are not installed or not working correctly"

I've now run Adaware, SpyBot, Norton & Ewido and still have the issues !!

    My HijackThis Log File:

You have an older version of Java and could be prone to vulnerabilities. Uninstall the Java through the Add/Remove Programs under the Control Panel. It should be under the name: "J2SE Runtime Environment...." . Download the latest one from here: http://java.com/en/download/windows_xpi.jsp and install it.

    Download SUPERAntispyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE

Install it, follow the guided instructions, and update for the latest definition files. Do not scan yet...

    Download CWShredder: http://www.trendmicro.com/cwshredder/

Also, update your other anti-spyware and anti-virus software for the latest definitions...

After all that, boot into safe mode. Instructions here: http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

After entering safe mode, run CWShredder. Select [bold]Fix[/bold]

Then run Hijack This <[bold]Run a system scan only[/bold]> and place a check mark for the following:

    [bold]

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E4C95DB3-23CA-4F09-8F46-BB48A1B40E2E} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhhf.dll (file missing)

    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyCasino.com - {B4B52284-A248-4c51-9F7C-F0A0C67FCC9D} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyCasino\RunCasino.exe

    O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe

    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe

    O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.amaena.com

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VVSN] C:\Program Files\VVSN\VVSN.exe

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: winopn32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winopn32.dll[/bold]

After that, run SuperAntispyware. Click on [bold]Preferences[/bold]. Next, click on the tab, [bold]Scanning Control[/bold]. Place a checkmark to all the options on the left under Scanner Options. Click Close, then click [bold]Scan your computer[/bold]. Choose [bold]Perform Complete System Scan[/bold]. Now, depending on how many hard drives you have, you can select where Windows is installed or all hard drives. This antispyware scanner is quite slow, but is very thorough. I would initiate the scan when you have plenty of time. Start the scan and don't touch the computer.

After the scan has completed, it will display the results with detailed information. It will get rid of the ones checked marked when you click [/bold]Next[/bold]. If it prompts you to reboot your computer, go ahead and do so.

After rebooting, post a new Hijack This log in your next response.

No, I was going to provide further instructions. The removal of parasites and malware can't be done in one step.

I hope your tone in that statement was to help, not to start an argument.

You may continue to follow maca's instructions if you want...

Since then, what programs/steps have you used?

Please post a new Hijack This log...

Some infections require special tools to eradicate them...

Curious though, how much RAM do you have installed?

I have been following maca's steps and then install AVG anti-virus and run that. updated my java. and ran CWshredder (which found nothing). And deleted the entries you suggested from the HijackThis Log.

Are you still getting pop ups and is AVG detecting any viruses/trojans?

You can use Hijack This to remove this entry or Party Poker:

    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {B4B52284-A248-4c51-9F7C-F0A0C67FCC9D} - (no file)

This used to be a bad one, but it's just a reference, since it indicates the file is missing:

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: winopn32 - winopn32.dll (file missing)

You can use a registry cleaner to get rid of that. If you already have one, you can run it to get rid of the obsolete registry entries, or if you need one, here's a free one to use:

    http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm

The program allows you to make a back-up of the entries you plan on deleting of what it detects as obsolete entries...

Other than that, I don't see any infections...

Curious, does the start-up time (or even during normal usage) seem slow or lagging?

    Hi,

Yeah AVG did find some trojan dialer things. It didn't always seem to deal with them instantly though.

but then when i went into the directory where it found the virus it would then pop-up ad offer the option to heal it. as oppose to when it first found it. Guess I must just have a setting wrong or something.

It is actually quicker now that it was when I started this post. Why do you ask ?

I do keep seeing a window appear in the startbar occasionally...but only for about a second before dissappearing again. and it has no name on it....

My Media center still won't play video's though and can't find anywhere on the net to advise how to fix it. Have tried re installing my video drivers and that didn't work.

    Argh !!!

just tried running that Reg checker program....backed up my registry...it found 740 entries that were invalid.

    After cleaning and rebooting....

Windows Installer trys to install "PhotoGallery" about 5 times. Whilst it's doing it, it complains of errors with dot net framework.

So I Restored my backup....and it's still doing it.

I tried to re-install the dot net framework from Microsoft and it has certainly reduced the number of errors but they still keep coming up....

    help again...?!?!?!

I was a little concerned because you have lots of [bold]04[/bold] entries, which indicated that a lot of background processes/services loaded up when you start-up your computer. I was going to suggest to disable some so that your computer would gain a little more speed...

    Have you tried using SuperAntiSpyware?

I am not that familiar with Media Center. Perhaps you can do a search in either of these forums or post a question...

Yeah realised I had installed 1.1 first time round...just tried 2.0 but still getting the .Net framework error..

"An unhandled exception has occured in a component in your application...."

So I'm guessing it actually this PhotoGallery thing that is failing, and not .NET Framework.....??

the windows installer for PhotoGallery comes up when I start the computer, just after windows has fully loaded....

Haven't tried SuperAntiSpyware. Would it be one you would highly recommend ??

    Ok,

PhotoGallery is an error in my HP Photosmart software so will just find the CD and re-install it. Hopefully should fix that problem.

Cheers for the rest of your help...

Will have a tentative look through that registry checker again once sorted that problem out !!

Hopefully can work out this video error now !!
