my mother and my sister changed the password to my computer and one of my friends came over and decided that he would try to hack it. However, he is really bad when it comes to techy stuff. anyways. we changed the system password and the administrator password by using system preferences or something from the start page. my computer began to make noise then it just went black. then the words "enter system password and press <enter>. but when i try to type the system password that we changed to "monkeys" it doesn't work because nothing happens when we try to type. then when i try to type the password when it doesnt show up and i press enter it says system halt! too many passwords attempts 7 or more! system halted need to power down. i waited about 35 hours before trying again please help before she gets mad! ty for any help i can get.
You might try booting into 'Safe Mode'. It will ask for the 'Administrator' password. Either it was left blank (and you can just press the Enter key to get to the Control Panel) or you gave it a password when you installed Windows (and still remember it). If that doesn't work you can try downloading a disk image and boot the PC from that. There are a number of these utilities around that might help. http://www.techjaws.com/how-to-crack-windows-xp-and-vista-login-passwords/ I tried it on my PC and it displays the passwords.
this is the free bootcd I use to reset my windows password on xp. It worked everytime I used it. http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
the boot CD didn't work because all the my computer will do is the very first loading dell screen then it just goes to the said page. at that point it will not allow me to type any charecters in the password space.
