I have revived a computer that my daughter had used for several years. Reloaded XP from scratch, its all up to date. When I try to play a DVD, either from an actual DVD or from one backed up onto the hard drive, the system locks and must be reset. Media player as well as WinDVD do the same thing. After going through all this my daughter informs me "Oh yah, I never could play DVDs on that system". Grrr. Any ideas where to look? All other applications work perfect on this system. Thanx! EM
Try using 'MPC' or 'VLC' to play the files. Perhaps there is no suitable MPEG-2 codec installed in the PC (XP does not include a codec). http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_players/media_player_classic.cfm http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_players/vlc.cfm
