Sorry all I messed up this request what it should say is I get the message every time I start the Computer, Should I reinstall Windows
Most likely yes...some part of the registry keeps getting corrupted. However, if you've installed Windows using an imaged disk (recovery CD)..or one you've created, don't use it again. Install from a normal XP CD.
Didn't work... I reinstalled XP with an orignal disk and I still get the same message. Any ideas would be a help
Can't you copy and overwrite the file from Xp disk to registry and then there shouldn't be any reason for it to happen? Just a thought.
It sounds like something in the hardware lineup is causing a registry issue. This could come from a bad BIOS, bad chipset, bad whatever!! In order to figure it out, you'll have to strip the system down to it's bare necessities and test the components. First, find the newest version of the mobo's BIOS and flash it. If it tells you it's the same version and won't flash, flash it with an older version, then reflash with the newest one. After you've successfully done that, remove the battery from the motherboard for five minutes to reset to factory defaults. Next will be to test the memory using MemTest86 which you can easily Google...test each stick one by one, and in each memory slot. Just because a stick may seem bad in one slot, may run without flaws in another...letting you know if it's the stick of ram, or the slot. Download and run the diagnostic tools for your hard drive. If it passes, do a low level format to erase the entire drive. When that is done, partition it with the diagnostic disk. If nothing fails, you'll need to install XP fresh from scratch, and best to do so in this order: XP SP2 Motherboard drivers Video Sound Firewall Windows Updates Also, post back with your configuration setup....we'll need to know if your power supply can handle the hardware setup you have.
thanks for the suggestions it will have to wait till the weekend as I am working away from home the rest of the week. As an after thought my 400 watt power supply went down last week and i replaced it with a 450 watt I don't know if this could of caused anything.
Morph, Thanks for your advice I did strip down the comp and found nothing wrong however when put back together the problem had gone so its fixed for now. I think the trouble is the comp is not quite up to the job I am asking it to do I've had to install a camera security system and it runs through my comp sys I intend to build another system in a few weeks. Thanks for all the help
Anytime. Just a suggestion when building the next system...spare little expense when going for a really good power supply. The last looked at hardware device that is the most vital of them all!
