Tried Mp3tag for this but I could only get this to work with online covers from amazon.com
Is there freeware software that would let me tag covers stored on my HDD?
Not all covers are available on amazon.com....especially foreign country releases.

Of course you can use Mp3tag to add album art from HDD..Just make sure the art file is a .jpg and re-name it folder.jpg, and add it to the track(s)..

I am just curious, as to what you are doing. I use Media Monkey for most of my audio management. If you organize your audio so that each album has its own folder and there is a folder.jpg in it, the jpg is automatically linked to the audio tracks. It will find them through some other sources you ask it to. If you specify to sync with the artwork to an mp3 player it will do that.

It just never occurred to me that people did this manually.

Hopefully you are only linking the art not embedding it in the mp3 which you can do. Most mp3 corruption is caused my the metadata not the audio.

I would check out Media Monkey then. I would be most surprised if MM didn't sync to your Sony.

I have not done a manual link ever! Mind you not all of my music has art but probably half does. I have a very large quantity of rare audio.

FWIW, I've never had a single track or album metadata corruption using Mp3tag..
There are certain cases when you'd want to manually edit tags (i.e delete existing tags and update/tag properly..@ OP, FYI, when searching and finding art 'Right-click art ->and export to album folder(which will automagically be selected)..Now you'll have a folder.jpg in your album folder..
B/C some HW players may not read certain metadata properly and therefore not display art, it may need to be embedded..
I also normally don't embed cover art, since my iPod and SW player(s) e.g foobar2k, MM, display my un-embedded album art just fine..

    Cheers!..
