anytime MSU, it's just a preference for some of the newer players, i have found that my cheapest standalones will play ANYTHING i throw at them, while my $2,000 high end Denon's are VERY picky...won't play anything but pressed dvds or if i booktype my QUALITY dvd+r to dvd-rom~ then it plays. so, i take it your NEW Sony is like that too~ all i can really suggest is that if your burner allows it, to booktype the dvd+r to dvd-rom, it MIGHT play it then...for more info on that...ask mort81, he's THE expert on booktyping~ feel free to come w/ any more questions, MEDIA is obviously not the case if you have any more problems, THAT we know~ good luck~
Yes Kivory..I have a cheapo SONY DVP-NS575P which will play beer mats,as long as I remove the tinnie first.Recomended it to a friend and it spits out my backups in disgust,no matter the media,no matter plus or minus????? P.S GO KOSTYA
Hi there, could some kind soul please tell me where I can get hold of genuine 16x Taiyo Yuden in the UK? Its just that I wish to backup a lot of important data [I am writing a book, plus family photos etc] and want to use the best media around [which I believe to be TY, though may be mistaken ^^]. Thanks for reading my small request ^^.
creaky is your man for media in the UK~ while i have a feeling he will suggest VERBATIMS...i wouldn't know where to begin in acquiring 16x TYS in the UK~ hahahaha...we'll see, he'll be here soon~
try www.svp.co.uk for genuine TY, though the ones i bought were 8x. hang on i'll check. yup i can only see 8x... you could go for Verb's though (hint hint)

June 2005 @ 00:53 Report an offensive post Hello first of all to everyone. I am a newbie to your site and I look forward to sharing some interesting discussions here. My question is about the Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD-R. I am expecting my first shipment of DVDs (which happen to be Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD-Rs) from Meritline.com for my new NEC-3520A drive I purchased. I have taken the liberty to contact Meritline and ask for verification of the validity of the Taiyo Yudens and make sure they are the true brand. We discussed about the fact thatthey are TY fakes on the market and she assured me that they are the real deals. I will verify personally when they come in tomorrow and let everyone here know so that you can feel confident ordering from them and you not get stuck with fakes. Anyway, my question is what should I be expecting to see (code-wise) when I perform a check to test the validity of my new Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 16x? Would they be different than the codes for the 8x's? Thanks you all for this AWESOME site and to all who can answer these questions. kivory666 Senior Member 3. June 2005 @ 01:28 Report an offensive post Great.....Thanks for the quick response kivory666. I will certainly let you all know what I came up with. This is my first DVD burner and I'm very new to this arena of computing but I am a very quick learner and I hope to be on a more even keel with you are shortly.. LOL I have used this software to rip the DVD to an .ISO image file so that when the blanks come in, I will be able to burn straight from the image. I love the simplicity of this software and when I have tested the image file and viewed the movie after ripping, the quality was perfect to that of the DVD source. I was curious if anyone here has had any experience with DVD Copy Tools 3.5.3.0. I think it does an awesome job and it relatively fast for the ripping. Check it out for those who have not tried it. Hi again, Firstly, thank you all for your replies! I could only see the 8x on sale too. Are Verbatim really that good? I have 300 or so data dvds [Ridisc G05 dye ] but I really want to make 2 bulletproof archives, one for occasional use, the other as a backup. Naturally, they will both be kept in Caselogic cases, stored vertically and out of light/heat/moisture, but I only want to use the best discs. Can I take it that SVP are the only UK retailer to sell genuine TY discs?
@aland you have confirmed that the 16x TYs that was coded out by msudawg purchased from meritline.com are fakes????? do you have evidence supporting that my post is incorrect when i stated that he got genuine TY discs? im just curious to where you got your info, i called meritline shortly before i made my statement on here and spoke to a rep. stating meritline ONLY sells authentic TYs~ i have yet to see anyone dispute the AUTHENTICITY of TYs sold by meritline, as even to me, irregardless of their sometimes poor packaging/shipping department, i have not heard of them selling FAKE TYs as shop4tech was the only company that i have had the misfortune of running into FAKE TYS in the past~ while you might be correct and i am wrong or misinformed about my knowledge of TYs, but i would like to know where you are getting YOUR info. on this~ if you are right about this and i am wrong, this could really devastate meritline's reputation about selling ONLY AUTHENTIC TY media, which would mean that I, along with MANY others on here, have been duped by meritline's honesty and selling practices. please let me know about the validity of your statement as i always keep an open mind about everything and i DO make mistakes about TY here and there, i am only human, but, i have taken the time and done MY research on TY media extensively, so, unless further proof can be obtained, i still stand on my statement as to msudawg purchasing AUTHENTIC TYs from meritline~ i respect you as a friend on here aland, but, i would appreciate some concrete evidence if you are saying my comment is wrong~
@kotsu - Verbatim [bold]datalifeplus[/bold] really are that good. As for svp, it's the only place i know of that sells genuine TY. Their prices are very good, which reminds me i should head over there and order some more Verb's myself..
Thanks a lot! I have ordered from them before and their service was good, though like pretty much all blank media sellers in the UK, packaging could have been better. If they don't have TY will go for Verbatims then. By the way, which 16x drive would you go for? Am stuck between the Pioneer and the Plextor..
for me , NEC 3540 all the way. I have been looking to buy an NEC drive since they had the 2500 i think it was. But for one i don't 'need' another burner, and for two they keep bringing out new drives every time i blink. But svp do the 3540 for something daft like £35 i think. That's throwaway money really for what you get, plus you can get up to 10kg of goods for the same £4.49 shipping . Yup their packaging could be better but i've not had problerms yet. Saying that their returns process seems top notch, they just seem very efficient full stop.
oops i missed something. what i meant to say was that their shipping cost is £4.49 for up to a whacking great 10kg so if you buy loads of media you can get the drive too for no extra shipping (creaky drools thinking of the NEC 3540!)
Hmm, annoyingly, SVP's site seems to be all screwed up. Will try later.. Hopefully they will have either TY or those Verbatim datalife 16x in x50 cakeboxes.. Seen them on various American sites but nothing in the UK yet..
that's something i never comment on, other than saying i use primarily -R cus that's what i used when i started out and my discs work on everything i need them to. it's just habit for me. try here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/203533/1103511-277680
