    kivory666,
    I hope you got my P.M. The name of the Ebay site where I believe these were either puchased or wholesaled is Dupsonic. Again, I may be the one who is wrong here, I have been wrong many times before, and I'll be wrong 100 times again, but after having been duped by Dupsonic, I only do business with Rima.com ( I am not pimping this site ) I am only saying that maybe this could be the case. I would not have even brought it up if I had not had this unpleasant experience. I truely apologise if you took it any other way.

    @aland

    got your PM, i believe I AM WRONG, you are RIGHT~ :p you have made a VERY valid point and so it seems, i too may have been scammed by meritline after this incident. i ordered after msu had initially stated he got it from there, just to try them out myself, i had no idea meritline could be so shady~ :(

    anyways, i will publically RETRACT what i said about that media code from before being AUTHENTIC, it is in fact NOT~ :) thank you for pointing this out and i sincerely appreciate you keeping me on my toes in regards to Taiyo Yudens~ while i try my best to keep my mistakes to a minimum, i do get deceived sometimes, it's good someone caught my error before someone else makes the same mistake.

    good day to you all and especially to you aland, i thank you for pointing it out, if not for you, i never would have known and seen the light, you are ALWAYS good in my book, thanks again~ :)

    Thank heaven for forums like this!

    What happens exactly when a retailer is found to be selling fake media? And what course of action is open to people who have already bought and used fake media? Its a very sad state of affairs..

    @kotsu - bumped into you again !

    i saw someone a while back had complained to svp.co.uk that they had come across what they thought were fakes. i can't remember the exact details but svp made a statement clarifying the issue.

    as for myself, i reported my fake bulkpaqs (2nd link in my sig i think) to ebuyer but they just brushed it off. i spent months trying to submit a review of those disks with the word FAKE in it. they wouldn't pubish my comments and months later they stuck to the story that they were looking into it, then finally they got feeble and said they don't happen to stock them anymore. Trouble is with companies like that is that they do start stocking stuff like that again, they have no knowledge of what they're selling hence their attitude. At least reputable stores treat you right

    Heh, people will start talking! ; ]

    Ebuyer have a terrible reputation don't they? It looks like its either a very small operation or a very shady one!

    I want to say publicly that you are the most knowlegeable person on this forum about many things including Taiyo Yuden media. I on the other hand will probably never know as much as you do. The people on this forum should all commend you on the lenghts you have gone to, too make sure that they have the correct information. But like I said in my other posts, nobody can be perfect. These retailers go to great lenghts to sell as much media as possible, I do not think they realize what one persons bad experience can do to their image. The problem is that the discs they are selling" DO "work, but not as good as the media they say they are supposed to be. The so called TY's I got were not even recognized by my L.G. burner but burned at 12x in my NEC. They were real media, but just not the quality that we are used to. Again, you are my friend and I want everyone to know on this forum, that if anyone is liable to make an error it is not you. We can only go by the information we are given, and if that is incorrect then we have done our best.

    I know that site very well. It is maintained by Scorpiosoft. He works for VSO software. He is very well known in the NEC world. He works with others to create firmware revisions and mods for the Nec drives. Their latest is the fifth release of the 1.01 firmware for the 3540. They also have alot of great firmware for the 3520.

    Anytime Creaky. By the way Office Depot (USA) has Maxell DVD media on sale for 17.99 for 50 starting tomorrow. The dash media codes out to MXLRG03 MIJ are recognized by the NEC 3520 and 3540 at 16x. They are goldtops and great media. I haven't been able to find them for a good price. Normally they are 40.00 for 50, so I am going to stock up. When you get get your NEC I'll give all the firmware and media news.

    @ aland

    i sincerely thank you for the kind words as i assume it was directed towards me~ :) i couldn't agree with you more as we can only go by the info we are given, this SHOULD be good enough for the most part, but, sometimes even i can be deceived unknowingly despite my experiences i've had so far w/ TY~ im going to give my TY rep a call and see what she has to say about these FAKES, i no longer trust meritline after THIS ORDEAL~ :(

    2ndly, while you hold me in such high esteem, i am flattered by your comment...the most knowledgeable person on this forum about many things including TY~ awwwwwww...you're making me blush~ while i try my best, there are many people that FARRR surpass my knowledge about things "burning related", but i would like to think i know what i am talking about when it comes to things TY~ :) *pat myself on the back* after stepping off my high horse~ :) anyways, it's just very nice of you to think so highly of me, from a friend, that is always appreciated~ :)

    @ creaky

    my TY rep is not available on the weekends, gotta wait till Monday before i can get some sort of response from her~ :)

    also, @creaky, aland is THE one source i turn to regarding NEC...he was the one who informed me 1st about the LIggy firmware for my nec 3520~ aland is VERY knowledgeable in the NEC dept. as i trust his advice and opinions 100% there~ :) since then i guess i can safely guess that aland owns the 3540 as well, i do not have this drive YET, but in the future, i will naturally turn to him for firmware and news ~ it's good when you have friends one step ahead of everyone else, i feel privileged to call BOTH of you my friends here on AfterDawn~ :)

    Hey kivory666,

    My TY's come up as TYG01 with disc identifier and the code on the center ring is GD000267....are those real or fake. And my verbs are MCC-003 those are good right.

    Back at ya Kivory666, together we conquer all. I do own both the Nec 3520 and 3540 and any help I can be to you or anyone else regarding firmware or the media that works best with them please do not hesitate to ask. Right now my opinion is that the 3520 is the better drive because the firmware is more mature, but the 3540 has more raw potental. They are two completely different drives hardware wise. You cannot use 3520 firmware on the 3540. Hacked or not. By the way there is also a 3530 which is a DELL oem, and the firmware for that drive is also completely different, so be careful when flashing.

    @jasper

    i can confirm THOSE 100% as being authentic~ im burning on a 4x TYGO1 as we speak right now~ my coding is GD000195~ :p and yes, the Verbatim MCC 8x dvd+r are exactly those...MCC003~ i just broke open another spindle earlier this morning as i am going to backup close to 50 dvds today~ :)

    2ndly, on Verbatims...there is an inner code to check as well, i hope i am not opening up another can of worms, but, my Verbs which i KNOW are authentic have the following code on them inscribed by laser : ZD1321-DVR-X47B... :) hope that clarifies for you~ you should have something similar~ as the ones i'm using now are Verbatim branded and i bought them from amazon.com a few weeks ago.

    happy burning~ your TYs are DEFINITELY AUTHENTIC~ :)

    @kivory666 & @ALAND, yup quite a combination there, Mr TY (lol) and Mr NEC. Alan, sorry i hadn't appreciated you were so knowledgable on the NEC stuff before (probably more stuff too), as i never find enough time to venture into more forums, i tend to get bogged down in some of the DVD forums with 600 new threads each night. I keep meaning to branch out & get stuck into the hardware and PC type forums, there's just not enough hours in the day.

    And on that very note i've been on the PC most of the day so am gonna settle down with some Guinness and The Manchurian Candidate then Ladder 49, both on TY :O
