I was wondering how to convert tapes into cd. I have nero 6 wave editor but I am unsure about to connect the tape player into the computer and how to set up nero 6. Many thanks to any help.

    Hi.
To start off, do you have a decent Cassette player?
Does it have a Audio Out? = Prefferably a 3.5mm Jack?
Does your computer have a Audio in? = 3.5mm jack?

If yes, then here is how to do it.

Step 1) Connect your Cassette Player to your Audio in socket using a 3.5mm Jack cable. (You could use the microphone socket).

Step 2) Connect Your power source to your cassette player, make sure everything works fine.

Step 3) Insert the cassette into the cassette player, and Play the cassette, if you can hear the sound coming through your PC Speakers then Great! - Go to Step 5!

    Step 4) If you cant hear the sound through your speakers, then do the following;

    - Start> Control Panel> Sound Speech Audio> Sounds and Audio devices. In here check all your equipment is right. E.g Your micropgone settings, test it. Your Recording device, test it, test all that needs to be tested, and see if you can now hear you cassette playing.

Sorry for stating the obvious but...
Is your cassette player's sound turned on / up?
And is your cable connected properly?
Finally, cheack the volume settings on the computer, change them round to see if you have got anything.

If you still cant hear the cassette playing, still carry onto the next step, it MAY still work.

Step 5) with Nero Wav editor open, click the RECORD button, or hit CTRL+R. A dialogue box appears. Its asking to select a sample format, basically, what setting you want the cassette to record at.
Personally i would select the highest bit depth (16-bit) and then CD quality Sample rate (44100Hz) You can select a higher one, it takes more time to create the file, and it will be bigger!
Then choose the Stereo recording option, i dont care if your casstte doesnt play with stereo, select it!
    Finally hit the OK button.

Step 6) Here is your recording console. Start the music playing through your cassette now. This is to test if nero can detect it. If the bars move into the yellow area, then your in business! (In reality, get them to just touch the red area.) If you cant get any sound to be recognised, then im sorry, i dont have a clue!- ask someone else nicely of they can explain!

At this point make sure to turn off all over recording devices, including that crappy looking microphone. You dont want to record all them songs to find out that they have got a free echo added to them, or sound like they're being played from nextdoors house!

Step 7)Rewind your cassette to the place you want to start recoring. Then when you are ready, hit the record button, and play that CASSETTE!

Step 8) If you want to record your songs seperate, stop the casstte at the end of that song, then stop Wave editor recording by hitting OK. Then you can edit the sond, add echo, reduce echo, and whatnot.
Im not going into detail about the features.
To save your new song, go FILE> SAVE AS...
Then type in your filename you want, where you want to save it too, and then choose which encoder you want to use. Prefferably use a MP3 coder. Its easy to work with, or, select WMA, if you want it to be saved in windows audio format.

Step 9) Keep recording your songs like that until your done. Then once you have finished, you should have a whole bunch of Music files that you just recorded somewhere.

Step 10) using nero burning Rom, select file> new. now select the AUDIO CD option on the left (i think it is anyway). Now you have a starting point for your new Audio CD. Type in all the neccessary information about the Artist, Band, Producer, and all that larkm, until you hav had enough, or atleast finshed.

Step 11) Select which drive you want to copy it to (put a blank cd in the drive) and then select what burning speed you want. Choose whichever one you want. The faster speeds can sometimes cause a bit of trouble, but 99% of the time its fine.
Now select NEW (the button on the RIGHT) and your away, select the music files you created and drag them into the area where it has columns called "Track" "Title" "duration".
You now need to fill in the information of the music files, if you want.

Step 12)Once you feel that all the information you want of the music you need is dnoe, then go ahead and click the BURN button. or click Recorder> Burn comilation. And then nero will (hopefuly) recode the files for you, into Audio CD.

Step 13) When its finshed, exit the Nero Burning rom program, Save it if you want to. Then put the disc into a different CD player other than your computer to see if it has worked.
    If yes, then great!
If no, post below and tell us what you done!

Well, hopefully that has helped a few people. As for my first guide, i think its ok.

    Thanks ya'll.

    Hi ,

I have successfully transfered my audio from tape to PC in WAV format using Sound forge audio studio 8.0. I then converted into MP3 and WMA format. My issues is the length of the audio tape is 90 mins both sides and the CD capacity is only 80 mins. I am unable to burn the file due to its length.

    1) Can anyone suggest how to shorten the duration of the audio file (stored as .WMA or .MP3 format) ?

My final goal is to play the CD on any CD player .

    Thanks in advance .

If your mp3 file is 90mins long, you might be able to overburn to a cd, although i am not aware how to do it, just aware that it can be done.... sometimes :/
