Hi, (Panasonic) Technics have the reputation of reading almost all formats. Perhaps you unit was not fitted with the firmware to read recordable discs. Jo
thanks for the prompt reply, does anyone know how i can sort out the firmware problem if that is what it sounds like? had a look around on the net for this and not really got anywhere. cheers, help much appreciated.
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM M8 YOU HAVE TO HAVE A DUEL LAYER LENS FITTED BEFORE IT WILL READ COPY MUSIC I PAYED £47 for it done
A few things... A burned disk does not reflect the way a pressed CD does. Just look at the undersides side by side. The pressed CD is like a mirror. I did not see 'the above audio system' but it really does not matter. If what you have was not designed to read burned disks it wont. Most persons complain their CD reader can read some and not others. Then you can play with media and burning techniques to improve the quality. You aren't there. You will need to use an MP3 player to pipe in the music to the amp (if you can) or buy a CD reader that it made for what you want to do. If you buy a new one do yourself a favor, buy a mp3 CD player. They read burned audio disks easily. They will also play mp3 CDs that hold 5-10 times the music of an audio disk.
REALY M8 TECHNIICS DO A DV260 WHOT COME OUT THE YEAR AFTER OUR MODEL AND THAT PLAYS EVERYTHING AND THE ONLY DIFFRENCE IS A DUEL LAYER LENS I ONLY KNOW THIS BECAUSE I WENT INTO BILL HUTCHINGSONS THE HIFI SPECIALST WHO TOLD ME SO I LEFT IT FOR ABOUT 2 MTHS TO SEE IF I COULD FIND FIRMWAREBUT IT DOSNT MATTER WHOT FIRMWARE YOU HAVE WITHOUT A DUEL LAYER LENS IT CANT READ IT IF YOU HAVE A HIFI REPAIR SHOP BY YOU TAKE IT IN AND THEYLL PUT A DUEL LAYER LENS IN MADE BY PANERSONIC AND IT TERIFFIC NOW AS THEY ARE A REALY GOOD HIFI AND I PLUG MY MP3 PLAYER INTO IT SO YOULL HAVE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS AND STILL BE ABLE TO PLAY FIVE DVDS WHOT A MP3 PLAYER CANT 1 TO ME I BELEAVE REGARDS DARYL
DBLINGER - Yes, the problem is not software or firm ware but hardware, the reader. I bet the replacement is the lens unit not just the lens. CDs do not have dual layers so that part of your information is confusing. It probably will also read a dual layer DVD hense the name. Dual layered DVDs and burned CDs have been around for a long time. What gives? Do you know if the unit with the new reader will read mp3 CDs? How much did the repairs cost? These would be real factors in whether to repair or replace. I bet you can find a better replacement on overstock.com than it will cost you to repair it. I am personally VERY unimpressed. All our boom boxes in the house and other cheap players purchased more than 5 years ago can all read burned disks. One was only 25 USD. Obviously, if you purchased your system less the 5 years ago, it is pure garbage. I would liken it to buying a telephone that can not use tone dialing. I steer clear of that brand but I did not know they were sooooooo bad.
