I think I'm one of two people who actually use this software to make audio CDs, instead of copy DVDs.

I was told that Nero allowed you to set any pause between any pair of tracks. This would be great if you wanted to a certain pair of tracks to have no gap between them, while other pairs could have a normal one or two-second gap between them.

But now I think I was misinformed on that account. It seems that you have to have the same gap between all tracks, period. Does that sound right?

To make matters worse, I'm not even able to get rid of the annoying 2-second gap between tracks. Both Nero Express and Nero Burning Rom (version 7) keep reverting to the 2-second default, no matter what I do.

When I start a new compilation, under General Options, I select [bold]No pause between tracks[/bold]. But when I pull tracks into the compilation, a 2-second pause is listed for each.

OK, so I select all the tracks and press F7, then choose the [bold]No pause between tracks option[/bold]. While this makes it appear that there will be no pause between tracks, I find each time after I burn that the software reverted back to the original 2-second delays.

I'm pretty frustrated, and sure could use a little help.

what version of Nero are you using? I burn MP3DVDs and also CDs, too! I never had the problem with the delay between tracks when I set the NO PAUSE. You must be using a buggy version of Nero.... that's why I asked what version of Nero are you using?

I'm using the latest one (Version 7), which every seems to think is not as good as the older 6.6.

I've found that you have to check [bold]No pause between tracks[/bold] in a couple of different places before it works. Even when it works, it doesn't work well enough. You can't have different pauses between different tracks. And all MP3 files have an extra bit of silence added to them during the encoding process.

Turns out that Nero doesn't remove the silence normally inserted into the end of all MP3 files, not even when it decodes them for burning. Instead, you have to use other software to remove it.

    Oh, crap.

Turns out that Nero keeps gaps between tracks whenever the original source file is MP3. There doesn't seem to be a thing you can do to stop it.

Supposely, the software has settings to remove silence at the beginning and end of tracks, but it's a broken feature used strictly as a marketing tool.

Now I have to find something else to burn audio CDs.

first off ....... Nero 7 has many bugs especially if you are using the lastest update! I'm using Nero 6.6.0.18 now.

save your serial #s and then .... uninstall Nero 7...... use clean tools:
    http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html

then do a registry clean up, defrag hard drive, reboot and install these:

    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

these are the stable versions of Nero... no bugs known.

    you're wrong about:
I've used Nero plenty of time and checked the box [bold] NO GAP[/bold] and it worked like a charm! If you recorded the Mp3s with a long silence at the end .... that Nero can't do anything about.... but once the MP3 ends the next MP3 begins with NO GAP! sooooo your version of Nero is doing this! Trust me.... go to the stable version of Nero and enjoy! it's much better!

OMG. This is what I get for buying my software . . . .

I'm going to use Feurio! to make my audio CDs. Nothing else equals the level of control it gives you.

I really do need to thank Shade[ST] for this comment, which led me to install Feurio! and take it for a spin. So far, it is the ONLY program I have found that can actually do all these things:

    • DAO burning for improved reliability
    • volume normalization or leveling
    • ability to work with source files of various formats (WAV & MP3, mostly)
    • ability to remove that 2-second gap between tracks!!!
    • removal of any leading & trailing silence
    • removal of silence in MP3s before they get burned
    • ability to burn a live CD without gaps between tracks
    • ability to specify gaps or no gaps between any specific pair of tracks

The ability to manually remove gaps between any pair of tracks sets it appart from anything else I've seen. The ability to preview a compilation and hear your music EXACTLY as it will be recorded is unique. Someone said Feurio! was outdated software. I don't care if it was developed on an Etch-A-Sketch; it actually works, it does things commercial applications do not.

I'm not sure if it does this:

    • ability to create MP3 music CDs

But I can continue to use MusicMatch Jukebox or Nero to make those rare MP3 CDs.

This SoundOnSound article got me through burning my first successful gapless mix. Feurio! isn't exactly watered-down, and casual users may find the range of options somewhat Byzantine.
