Here is a simple guide for those that can not backup "The CAVE". Looks like SONY has created a new deadly ARccOS now, this one is kinda itchy a lil bit. *Note: this is specifically for those that have tried other methods and yet, failed to have any success at all only.

This will solve your misery, YES.... you hear me -- if you follow exactly/wisely as the guide stated, then you should NOT have any problems at all. I GUARANTEE you 100% that you'll be able to have a successfully working "full disc" within roughly an hour. I've tried and tested my backup disc and it works flawlessly.

*Note: if you've tried to rip it with DVDFAB Decrypter (successfully) or DVD Decrypter (will have a success if only you know how to use other alternative ie psl) into the hard drive, but once you imported into DVD Shrink or Nero Recode, it (The CAVE) will give you an error of "not compressable" or something similar, and or you may end up with a "black screen" when playing your backup. This is because it has one of the new Sony ARccOS. Apparently, for this movie they've put at least 11 fake/bad cells inside VTS_02_*.VOB, which is right before the movie begins (I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's in the very beginning before the actual movie starts to play).

Here's what you need to do:

    <><> TOOLS NEEDED <><>

    DVDFAB Decrypter v2.9.6.6 http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm
    PgcEdit http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html#download
PSL2 plugin, Here: Many thanx alkohol: http://forum.digital-digest.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3743&... did the trick. Or try here, if the above don't work http://s40.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2DTRFL0EGLBQW1HJIF1PM6O037
    or VobBlanker http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

*NOTE: before ripping the movie with DVDFAB Decrypter, go into your hard drive and make a folder name THE CAVE and a sub-folder VIDEO_TS. Or if you're like me and want to "BLANK" out that FBI Warning sh!t, then make another folder name THE_NEW CAVE and a sub-folder VIDEO_TS. Now you can EXIT out from your hard drive.

    <> <> STEP 1 <> <>
Rip the movie with DVDFAB Decrypter

    <> <> STEP 2 <> <>
Run/process the movie files with PgcEdit in combo with PSL2 Plugin via using FixVTS.

    <> Open up PgcEdit

Once PgcEdit is done, DVD Shrink should open up right away if you have DVD Shrink installed on your system.

    <> <> STEP 3 <> <>
Transcoding or shrinking with DVD Shrink

    <> <> EXTRA STEPS <> <>
If you're like me and want to get rid of that annoying FBI Warning or if you just want to cut/edit/preview and BLANK out any unwanted scenes, then you'll need to launch VobBLanker.

    <> Open up VobBLanker

(NOTE: it used to have 11 of these fake/bad cells before running PgcEdit and FixVTS, but now it's only 2 left)

    <> <> STEP 4 <> <>
To transcode/encode with Nero Recode 2 (NOTE: this is for those that wants to use Nero Recode 2 only, like me)

nice guide alkohol, i used dvd fab and shrink, no problem. thought it was gonna kick my butt at first, loaded into shrink first, nothing, then tried decrypter, got to 6% and quit.
then i loaded into dvd fab, ran nero recode and shrink, 30 minutes and done.

I guess the minor differences between individual computers, such as drivers, firmware, and hardware, still have a big effect on what works and what doesn't. I've been lucky so far and for the most part have not had to go thru too much trouble to back-up my DVDs. Only this past two weeks have I had any problems and for me the solution was to rip with DVDFabDecrypter then run the end product of DVDFAB thru DVDshrink (WITHOUT Compression)then use CloneDVD2 to transcode and burn what came out of DVDshrink.. This may work for some and not for others. I'm glad we have a place to share this info and the folks who go to the trouble of making the guides and such, to help those with the biggest problems, deserve our thanks.

    @Car.Mike

Yes... you are right buddy, cheers. This mini guide is all "freeware" (PgcEdit combo PSL2 Plugin, DVDFAB Decrypter, VobBLanker and DVD Shrink), except Nero. However, those that doesn't have Nero don't need to worry because it's not necessary, unless you want to use Nero Recode 2 instead of DVD Shrink only.

    @tighthoe

Here's what you need to do:

    <><> TOOLS NEEDED <><>

    DVDFAB Decrypter v2.9.6.6 http://69.73.173.59/download/DVDFabDecrypter29.exe
    PgcEdit http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html#download
    PSL2 plugin http://forum.digital-digest.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3722&d=1136579852
    or VobBlanker http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

Once you have all of them on your system, install them right away. However, you'll need to read the "readme.txt" from both PgcEdit & PSL2 Plugin because you NEED TO "extract" those 3 files from PSL2 plugin and put it in the plugin folder via PgcEdit (example: C:\Program Files\PgcEdit\Plugin <--- so put those 3 files from PSL2 plugin in here).

You don't "really" need VobBlanker in this case, but if you're an advanced users and know what you're doing (wanting to "BLANK" out unwanted stuff ie FBI Warning/extras/previews/trailers, cut, edit/preview, filter and process, etc.), then I highly recommend you to get VobBlanker. This is one of the most useful (very powerful) tools available besides PgcEdit, FixVTS, DVDFAB Decrypter and DVD Decrypter that can filter/process ARccOS or RipGuard easily.

    Good luck!!

    Howdie,

Very nice documnetation on the process. I followed it exactly as stated. I don't want to undo all the good vibe here...but I started with a 6.21 GB DVDFab Decrypted Folder containing all "The Cave" including the ARCOSS crap and following all this I wound up with a 2.75 GB containing only roughly the last 1/3 of the movie and the Director's comment video. lol :)

I suppose I should have backed up my folder first... hehe ... Heck I'll just have to DVDFAB it again... and try again...

    Thanks for all..

Wonder what I might have done wrong ? I followed the process step by step... ( I think !! )

    Regards,
    CK
