Well I got lucky this round. No ban here. I was banned the first round.

    I have an ms28 with ixtreme 1.2.

Have not inserted a disc since the bans started.

As far as those that think it has to do with certain games like Assassin's Creed or COD 4, I have not played either.

My most recent games I have played have been Oblivion, Orange Box, Stuntman, PGR4, and a little further back Halo 3.

    Hope the info helps.

I have been banned. I have never played backups online, but have only really used the live service to download demo's online etc.

I was stupid enough to get a copy of assassin's creed before it was out (which incidentally didn't work anyway!) and it logged into xbox live.

A couple of days later and using a working backup of the game, I tried to go to XBL Marketplace but it won't connect and I have the banned message.

I know this has probably been asked before but is there anyway of a workaround. I've read about the EEPROM etc. but is there a way of re-enabling my console at this present moment in time.

    Thanks

I'm hearing (from xbox-scene forum) that most people think that the ban is coming from poor backups, or games that are downloaded and then burned! So my question is this, I've downloaded a torrent file and burned that game to a disc, and I've checked them with DVDMulleter and it seems to all check out! Here is a pic of what it looks like:

Now this is for COD4 and I'm a bit confused... Is this game region free? Because all of the games I check with DVDMulleter have had all the boxes checked under region! Here are the other games:

    Project Gotham Racing 4
    The Orange Box
    Kane and Lynch: Dead Men

So would this be considered a bad backup or not?

Also, I had the ms28 with iXtreme 1.3 on it, but took it off worrying about this! Does anyone know if the 1.3's for the ms28's have been banned at all?

i think the problem is the early released games happened to be pal but are region free. cod, mass effect, assassins creed were all out early and all happened to be pal but region free. so maybe its a region thing maybe they can tell if ur playing a pal game even tho its region free.

lmao, that can be a theory. but idk i think it's highly unlikely though cuz region has nothing to do with banning.

if games used in alternative regions were the cause of bannings... they woudnt make games region free... regardless of if the games out in one country and not another...i dont think it is to do with playing games early either... when that was the case halo 3... microsoft made it perfectly clear that was why... i have heard a theory that the most likely cause of this is bad dmi in some games...

EDIT: just realised thats what it says on xbox-scene too which you are all reading lol sorry

hmmm from what im reading over at xbox-scene its dodgy downloads that are causing the problem ad about page 27 of the thread over there (though they have deleted a load of posts) theres screen shots of xdvd mullet and the crc checking part

what they are saying is to scan your games with the crc checking part and make sure it matchs the online database

the recent Cod4 scene release (well the usa one) seems to not be on the data base even though it is ok on the normal checks its crc apears to be off and this has caused many people to be banned

what i`d like to know is there a website that will tell me what scene releases are bad and which are good?

any of you been baned what was the last few backups you weere playing?
if we can identify the dodgy backups we will be safe for a bit in future and hopefully the scene will take greater care making the images

benq`s have been banned just not many but given that the ability to mod them has just come about in last few months there aint many out there.

from xbox scene it does apear it is dodgy downloads that are the cause have a read of the xbox-scene page and a skip through the forum discusion

i played it till the day of the ban so far im ok (same firmware as you and drive) but loads of the posts on xbox scene mentioned cod4 and when i scaned it it said sorry not found in database

    open dvd mullet
    scan the disc
    click crc checking
not auto fix the other button (name escapes me)
tick both boxs on the resaulting popup and scan
if it finds it in the database at the end all is fine

what its doing (to my understanding) is checking it against crc of proper backed up games (those done with the right drive etc) if it finds it then you have an exact 1:1 copy of the original if it doesnt the data is out and ms could detect it and ban you (this is what i have learnt from reading everything i can not just random theorys but from up high)

its depressed me as that means a lot of my games are suddenly time bomb coasters :(

I know that providing info helps people out but don't you think it is a little bold to post your Xbox Live Account name under a message about having a mod?.

I am surprised M$ Employees aren't roaming this site just looking for someone posting too much information for a direct hit - Boom!!

I got banned on Monday playing H3 - a backup. I would provide the info regarding drive and firmware if I knew how. Never got a message, just cannot connect to XBL.

How many major hits like this have there been?
