    Hi there,

I own a NEC-3550a and I am very pleased with it.

If I would buy an other today, I would look at the BenQ DW-1655 or the Pioneer DVR-111.

They seems to be pretty good, but it's all I know, did not look into the Pros and Cons of all those.

Plextors are good but much more expensive.

My final answer ? Look and the Pros and Cons (Features) of each drive, and pick one that will please you, and for the money yo wish to spend.

    Happy Shopping !

I have almost the exact combo that cougar suggested....BenQ DW 1655 set as master and NEC 3540A running as slave. The BenQ is the quality drive and the NEC is the workhorse. These are both excellent drives and can be found for under $40 online...but you better hurry, the BenQ's are disappearing quickly.

Plextor do make a killer drive, but they also employ BenQ to make drives for them as well and for the difference in price I'd stick with the BenQ...for what you'll pay for the Plexy you can buy about 3 BenQ's and the difference in benefits bewteen the two is minimal.
