Hello all. I was just wondering if anybody can recommend the best video encoder? I sometimes burn avi to dvd; I use different formats. What is a good multi-purpose video encoder that will provide great quality results? As always I'm eternally grateful to all you fine people. Thanx in advance

This is a pat answer but the best encoder is the one you find suits you and you're happy with. For a 1 step program, I consider this the best: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/vso_convertxtodvd_guide.cfm. Great speed and quality. TMPGEnc Plus(DVD) is great but slow and said to be the best for VCD. Procoder is faster and said to be better for DVD, CCE is the fastest but should be used with Avisynth for the best results. That said, MainConcept is very good out of the box but has many tweaks. It's a bit pricey but the trial is indefinite and only puts a watermark in the upper left corner that may not even bother you. Also, pretty fast.

Give WinAVI a go too. Quick with excellent results.

Well, I have winavi. It can be a great prog at times, but I've had several problems with it. Thank you for all.

Not exactly sure myself. Basically a frameserving program and very complicated from the looks of it.

i beleive avisynth is used to fix out of sync avis.some avis will be the sound will be out of sync with the lip movement in the movie, and you run it through this program to fix it.from what i remember it wasnt that hard at all to use.
