I have a problem that seems to have happened to other people, after reading other threads on this subject I am still having problems.
The 160gb hard drive that came with the box doesn't seem to have been installed as the message on screen keeps telling me. I have tried to format the drive as per the instructions supplied by pressing+ holding the menu button and then powering the box up. All that happens is the green dot goes round the display. I've tried to format the drive from the on screen menu but "hdd not installed" message shows and i can't do anything else there. I have installed a 8gb drive thats 10 years old and this formats and works perfectly well, but is not big enough. I have had a replacement 160gb drive sent from the box supplier as we thought the original drive may have been faulty. surprise surprise this won't work either. After reading other threads I decided to re-flash the firmware (latest version Oct 2007) then tried to format the drive, still nothing.
I have now run out of ideas. I have put the old 8gb back in as a temp measure.
    Hope someone can help.

Is it a case that the drive jumpers are not set correctly? Have you tried setting it to both cable select and master? I had an issue where the drive would not pick up and this solved it. Hope this helps.

I've tried the jumpers in every position but this seems to have no effect. I've also tried using a different ribbon just in case.

just on the off chance,if its a western digital drive like i got with my box pvr you need to leave the jumper off and try formatting again.
