Hi, just got "The Box PVR". Connected it up to PC with serial cable supplied with it. Turned it off and on at the back, pressed ok - exit 3 times, then "init" is displayed, not b-30/31 as the instructions state. Subsequent attempts to download the f/w fail, I imagine because it is not in the correct mode to accept them. Anyone had this problem, and found a solution? Thanks in advance.
Hi Are you waiting for the 'ON' to show on your front display before doing the Exits etc.? If you are sure you are doing it ok first make sure they supplied you with a Null Modem Cable and Not a Serial cable,if same then try using the USB transfer method below, I use this and find it easier. jbvid Two different ways to Update Your Firmware How to Upgrade PVR Firmware “ There are two methods to upgrade PVR Firmware as below., 1. USB Download 2. Serial Download. 1. USB Download, Don't forget to backup your channel list first using the menu system unless its a first time install. 1) Connect PC & STB with USB Cable 2) Main Menu-> Select ‘HDD Mode Change PVR’-> Press ‘0000’ on the RCU ( Showed ‘HDD Mode Change PC’ ) 3) In PC a) Showed new Local Disk on the PC ( ‘F:W’ or ‘E:W’ ) b) Copy the new Firmware to your Local PC Disk. 4) Remove the USB Cable 5) Main Menu-> Select “HDD Mode Change PC”-> Press “0000” on the RCU Once “HDD Mode Change PVR”, STB is automatically re-boot. 6) Main Menu-> ‘Select HDD Interface’ ->’Select Upgrade from HDD’ Select ‘new firmware -> Press ‘0000’ on the RCU 7) Automatically upgraded & re-boot. 2. Serial Download 1) First find, download and uncompress the ‘PVR Loader v3.36 Sep 7 2005.exe’ or a later newer loader if any available and the latest Firmware. 2) Connect PC & STB with Serial Cable 3) Off & On with A/C Power on the rear panel. 4) Once display ‘ on ’ on the front panel, Press ‘ OK->Exit->OK->Exit->OK->Exit ’ on the RCU. 5) Look for Display ‘B-30 or B-31’ ( ready to download message ) on the front panel. 6) Use the Loader to load the firmware into the PVR. 7) Using the menu system do a scan for your provider. So to recap. I Plug the RS232 (null modem lead lead in) (the one I always use ok) Plug the box into the mains and turn it on. It displays ON for 12 secs before going to Init, I Run PVR Loader (whilst it still shows on and before it goes into Init) I load "BoxPVR_E_v4506_15Oct.bin" press download and get "flash update fail" EDIT: Success at last (but only by using ok, exit 3 times (WITH THE REMOTE) to get it to hold the -31 for the flash to take. It finally worked after umteen key presses on remote control I finally got it to hold on -31 long enough so I could update it. jbvid
Many, many thanks. Managed to catch the B31 this time, and f/w flashed OK (to v4506_15Oct 2007). New problem though, I do not get the EMU menu when I enter MENU, 1570, so I can turn on emulation. Any thoughts on this appreciated.
This takes me to the CAS SYSTEM menu. The only active options on this menu are Nagravision I, II, or Autoupdate Option (currently set to ON). Apologies for needing to be spoon fed, but what next?
Courtesy of jbvid: If channels not clearing goto Menu / System Setup / Press ok with Parental Control highlighted then press i then 2007, this should put you in the CAS SYSTEM Menu (You may need to do this a couple of times untill you get the speed of your remote key presses correct ) When in the Cas System Menu with Nagravision 2 highlighted Press ok, On the Provider ID Line select your provider by using the left / right arrow buttons on remote then press ok, wait for it to save then press exit. (Your provider needs to be the same one that you selected in Cable Network Options above. Finally make sure Autoupdate is On (Bottom Item in Cas System.) Got to a scrambled channel and wait a while to clear.
I select my provider, T*W, and store, exit, but when I go back in it has changed back to N*L. Tried several times and same thing happens. Still no 1570 option. ????????
There is no 1570 for the PVR. Autoupdate is your emulator. Try a factory reset and follow above again.
@tkjfw Hi This is a slightly updated version. Go through it VERY slowly and forget about all the 1570 etc numbers that you have read about. You may need to load the latest F/W v4.506 Oct it is in the 'eko.4shared' link below, You can find what your present version is by looking in your menu system. Then make sure you are plugged into the correct socket at the back (one of the four together) marked up. NOT the antenna socket. The manual is wrong. Before doing a scan Goto Menu / Installation and make sure the (Cable Network Option) top item is set to your local provider if not correct it by using the right / Left arrow keys on your remote, then move down to Autoscan and wait till it has finished scanning. If channels are not clearing after a scan goto Menu / System Setup / Press OKon your remote when the Parental Control line in yellow is highlighted then press i then 2007, this should take you the the Cas System Menu. (You may need try this a few times to get your key press timing correct on the remote control but this will get you into the Cas Syatem Menu) If you can't get onto the Cas System Menu screen then you are doing something wrong so keep trying it. When you are on the Cas Menu Screen and with Nagravision 1,11 highlighted in Yellow Press OK, On the Provider ID Line select the same provider as earlier by using the left/right arrow buttons on remote then press the LAST (load default) button on your remote, then the OK button to (Store) wait for it to save then press exit, then make sure Autoupdate option is On (Bottom Item in Cas System Menu.) This is the equiv of the EMU, Exit out, Goto a scrambled channel and wait for an update. Goto the TheBox PVR Folder for F/W and Documentation Folder for How too's http://eko.4shared.com/ jbvid
Pandoras box is now open! A factory reset and starting from the top did it (Nagravision setting still going back to N*L though). Thanks to you both for your help. Her in doors was telling me to send it back. Brownie points all around. Cheers.
Glad your'e sorted, didn't mention in my post about it reverting back to ntl as it doesn't matter. jbvid
