Basically i am looking at getting one of these and i have heard that the eurovox has improved picture quality, i am just wondering how does the picture quality of these two boxes compare. I know the box pvr is twin tuner and the eurovox is only single but i have also heard the epg is better on the eurovox. I currrently have a starview 3. What is the epg and picture quality like on these pvrs in comparison to this box?
EPG has never been to brilliant on the Starview range, if it is that you are looking for then the Eurovox wins hands down on both counts, it is very good, it is just a pity that it has a single tuner.
Hi Just to add a little to what malci said, unfortunately the Starview twin tuner PVR is no longer available to buy new, unless anyone has old stock left. I had one for ages and it worked fine for me but the EPG never really got improved much, but it was acceptable to me. I would imagine any updated firmware for these would have stopped, so it looks like a Eurovox or Starview 4 USB PVR which is also single tuner but maybe worth looking into, Don't have a S/V 4_USB so can't give you the EPG status. jbvid
Thanks for the info, i guess the eurovox is the way to go then, i was looking on this website waiting for the box twin tuner pvr to come back into stock, i could have been waiting weeks lol. Has anyone ever bought from the site above, or know if its trustworthy? I got my previous box on ebay from a trusted seller so just want to make sure i don't waste my money. I was leaning towards the eurovox anyway seen as how the epg was much better, but the single tuner was a bit of a drawback, now since single tuner is my only option its an easy choice.
Have a look at skywonder, never heard of any complaints aboutthem, and to my mind a very trusted seller >> http://www.skywonder.co.uk/home.php?cat=37
hi thanks for the link, i haven't bought one yet cause i am still unsure which one to go for as that site has both PVR in stock, has support stopped for the box pvr? there seems to be a lot of posts with people having different issues with the box pvr, is the twin tuner worth the effort? am i just better off getting the Eurovox 5000? I have a few friends looking to a pvr too and i want to make sure i give em the right recommendation.
Regarding The Box PVR, jbvideo has given you the information up above, and can't fault it, but if it is EPG that you are really concerned about then it has to be the Eurovox, whether you choose the EX 5000 for recording purposes is up to you, it is a pity that it only has a single tuner, but you can watch a channel transmitted on the same tp (Transponder) while recording another, limited I know!! - but the issues people are having will eventually iron out.
hi thanks for the quick reply, what i am really concerned with more the epg is i simply want to ensure that if something happens and say n*l change frequencies, will i be able to get new firmware for the box pvr if its not really being sold anymore? I am just thinking from a longer term point of view rather then about the features right now, the twin tuner is quite apealing however should anything happen with n*l the twin tuner is not going to be of much use if i can't get up to date firmware, or is this even something i should be worried about. Ps: sry about all the questions, just want to make sure i pick the right one.
********************************************************************* I am aware of that, and as stated by jbvideo it is only old stock that is being sold, so it is to say the least doubtful with new firmware, but I personally can not say that for sure.
ah right just wanted to be sure of that, thanks for the info i have a few more questions if you will bare with me a little longer. 1. Are there any other pvr boxes worth looking at? 2. Whats the picture quality like on these boxes compared to say the Starview 3? 3. Are there any HD boxes yet? 4. Sometimes my picture can get a bit jumpy on certain channels on my current box, i assume this is a signal problem, i am just wondering if there is any type of signal booster i could get. Thanks in advance, i'll stop pestering you soon lol.
1. There is a new Starview 4 Super USB PVR out, you can record on to a memory stick (Have to be a large one!!) check it out at link below. 2. The picture quality is fine, is all I can say. 3. No, there is not. 4. It depends on your signal level, as to high a signal is as bad as to low, or even worse depending on your point of view, 78 - 80% is about right, if it is higher then you can get an attenuator to put between the cable and box to smooth the signal out, if it is low then yes you can get a signal booster, but get a variable gain one, just google it. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/STARVIEW-4-TH...301|66:2|65:12|39:2|240:1308#ebayphotohosting
Hi malci You can use an external HDD with the SV4 if you want the larger capacity. Tested up to 300GB
Thanks scOuser for the info: no doubt you are aware of the problem we are having in the UK. mmm outlook gloomy!! the sods.
Ok thanks for all the info, i was going to purchase the box pvr, so i went to the link you showed me and it seems that the site has been suspended, i then started reading a few threads about whats happen in the UK, could this be the cable providers clamping down or is this simply an unrelated issue. btw i'm on n*l in ireland and my box still works fine, if thats of any interest.
