not sure this is in right place but my problem is this my box went off last night about 11.30pm and wont update itself, every time i turn box on now it goes to blue screen for a couple of seconds then little flashing light freezes.do i need to reflash box?new firmware/software?and where do i get it and how do i reflash box?thanks in advance joe
Hi Have you tried powering off at the back switch then back on.? If same it looks like you have a hardware problem with the box, maybe a voltage down on the power supply. I presume its a Starview PVR, you could try flashing it, but from your symptoms it may not connect with your PC. F/W and how too's in the link, you need v4.506 Oct F/W & PVR Loader Goto the TheBox PVR Folder for F/W and Documentation Folder for How too's http://eko.4shared.com/ jbvid
tried switch on back and still same.voltage problem sounds serious do i have to download hardware/codes to get it up and running again.thanks for advice jb
forgot to mention it is called the box pvr which i think came out last year after starview 1 box but doesnt actually name starview on it,hope that sounds clear thanks again jb
Hi Forget about codes, you don't need them it should AU (Auto Update) just try and reflash the firmware I showed you in the last posts link. jbvid
hi jb, download firmware and loader and everything seemed to transfer from laptop to box(took about 5-10 min when eventually managed it)anyway then took box back over to tv and connected everything up but same thing happened ie box comes on blue screen for few seconds then flashing light freezes black screen showing, would it be easier to remove harddrive before transfering firmware/loader?hopefully its something stupid i havent/have done thanks for help any ideas greatly appreciated joe

Hi Yes, try disconnecting the H/Drive and try it, then if same flash it without the H/Drive and try it again, I presume it doesn't get as far as showing you 'The Box logo' startup screen. jbvid
only blue screen with disc logo? for few secs then black screen and freezes will try later and post results, cheers for info jb
all channels back on now, removed hard drive loaded/rebooted itself straight away, some channels were missing at first done a autoscan got everything back including a screen from v*rg*n telling me about watching tv on a illegal box?they give you a hotline to phone if you,re in any doubt.anyone else seen this be interesting to know. thanks again jb have left hard drive out for now
Hi Forget the virgin logo, scaremongery, its been done before. It may be OK again now to refit the H/D and try it, if not you need to look for another. jbvid
thanks for your help jb,tell kids they can use it again now that,ll give me some peace lol, anyway will fit h/drive another time so longs it working, thanks again joe
Yeah I got that last night (I've got a starview the box) was just flicking around and 80% of the channels came up 'no signal!' then were replaced with the warning screen. I did a bit of a poo then turned it off, is it safe to turn it back on?
Mr soul yes its safe to go back in the water... there was no need to turn off the boxes in the first place ... just someone scaremongering!!!
Hey I am living in Dublin and my provider is n*l. I have 'the box pvr'. I have (as far as I know) the most recent firmware updated, it is E_Ver 4.506, 15 Oct 2007. A few months ago the box began turning itself on and off again by itself or 'rebooting'. This tends to happen at increasingly inconvenient intervals and is becoming quite irritating. It would usually happen for a day or two and then return to normal but it has now been happening for about a week or 10 days. Coupled with this, the reception has become jumpy in the past few days- im not sure if this is with all channels. Definately sky sports and so im thinking it could be on channels that are not on my package... Are they catching up or is there a simple solution to this? I have just reset factory settings and rescanned the channels. The reception is still jumpy!! Any ideas??? Cheers
Hi Your jumpy picture reception sounds like a signal strength problem, check you cable fitting / connections and remove any splitters if fitted and try your box connected to the nearest cable input, ie no long runs of cable. Your box turning on and off sound like a power supply overheat problem, but you could try reflashing the same firmware onto it and do a rescan, in case its got currupted, 4.506 is the better F/W. Finally make sure the short jump lead between the two tuners has a nice tight fitting. jbvid
Hey jbvid, my box is running smooth again, the jumpy picture was temporary and the power problem (the rebooting) was somehow caused by the hard-drive. I opened the box and the hard-drive was clearly over-heating for some reason. I disconnected the HD and voila-problem solved. New problem- I have no HD!! Any ideas of how to get around this?? Im not v good with technical stuff... Cheers
