I really hope someone can help - my Pc went away to Hp to have a faulty disk drive fixed as a result they put it back to factory settings - but i thought it's ok cause i had bought an external hard drive with Nero Backip up for all my work and the thousands of family photos we have - now i have come to do the nero restore i keep getting this message [bold]'The file 'Thumbs.db' is not available in the backup folder. Please select the parent of your backup folder.'[/bold] I don't really understand what Thumbs are but they are in the external drives folders and i have tried selecting various folders like My documents etc but it won't work - i can however individually restore a document or folder but i have thousands to do and am at the point of breaking down. Before the PC went away i did a couple of back ups and restores as a trial and they were fine - but now even they won't restore. Please Help x x x
I sent a machine back for repair once. They wiped out a lot of pictures for me when they put in a new motherboard. You would think making a backup is a good idea. Usually it is. But since you sent the machine back to the mfgr they have removed important information from your machine. Now your backup is looking for where it came from. It is not finding what it is looking for. The result is that it THINKS your same machine is really another machine. So, it does not want to do what you feel it should. And it will be very stubborn about this! If you can work around this issue, then you are ok. I know it's a royal pain, but at least your pictures and stuff are not gone completely. I would suggest putting a straight copy of data and stuff onto a rewritable media for safe storage. Then you won't face the issue of a backup that won't restore. Work in manageable sizes.
