I got an advance copy of the BluRay of The Godfather Trilogy - don't ask me how. If you are a fan of movies then this is the only way you have to see The Godfather on your home theater setup. Forget about upconverting the DVD's and forget about the HD broadcasts of the movies.

There is no other way to watch them at home and this is why:

    It's the Coppola Restoration

The movies were restored and remasterd under the close supervision of Director Francis Ford Coppola, Director of Photography Gordon Willis, and restoration expert Robert Harris. What they did is explained in detail in one of the supplements. They took the original negatives of the film, and they made new prints from the original negatives. Not just that, they restored the films frame-by-frame - a process that took over a year to finish. From this new master they did an AVC MPEG 4 encode that finally does justice to the original. The Dolby TrueHD restored soundtrack is no slouch either. They put in a lot of effort into this release and it shows.

Those of you used to modern ultra-sharp action movies will likely complain about the softer picture with its sepia-toned, muted colors but here's the deal: that's the way the director wanted the movies to look and that's the way you would have seen it in movie theaters in 1972. This is classic cinema at its best.

For anyone with a BluRay player this is a nobrainer.
