Ok, now most of you are wondering what the hell this is about. Some of us on the IRC channel have been having a friendly(through heated sometimes) debate about the correct name for chips. As I see it, in Australia, we call them: [bold]Potato chips or chips for the cold flavoured kind. Hot Chips for the kind you buy at the Fish 'n' Chip shop.[/bold] Now I know I'm bloody right! and everyone else is wrong. There's no such thing as crisps or french fries, and when you say "Chips" thats means the kind you buy in a packet, not Hot Chips! Ah, good to get that off my back, hehe.
Agreed But... there is such things as French Freis in OZ.... They r 'skinny' chips, like u get from McDonalds lol. Dont be forgetting the good ol Silicon Chips lol Regards CoZZa
Now go sit in the corner, and dont move untill i say so. hehe People must think you are Crazy... i know i do lmao Regards CoZZa _X_X_X_X_X_[small]#ad_buddies ... come and have a chat SERVER: /server irc.addictz.net:6667 CHANNEL: /join #ad_buddies [/small]
Is this what you talk about on IRC, no wonder its taking me sol long to get connected. Chips are potato chips covered in artifical flavouring. Fries are hot potato slices. Home fries are bits of hot potato with seasoning Crispers are crackers. Also in USA some Fish n Chips places will give you chips as in un seasoned cold potato chips.
I love my Crisps. And I'm proud of my Crisps. They're so CRISPY. GO CRISPY GO!!!! Chips are for "Fish n Chips"! But Crisps are for Walkers! CRISPS GODDAMNIT. We should start a revolution about this.
hehehe i told use crazy aussies that there called crisps ....chips are what u get in a fish and chip shop. lol@hot chips ,sorry but that makes me chuckle every time i see it. Another thing damon and cozza,When use go to a fish and chip shop in australia and ask for fish and chips ,use call crisps=chips eh,so does that mean u get a piece of fish served with a packet cheese and onion?lol _X_X_X_X_X_[small]afterdawn channel on irc: server:irc.addictz.net channel:ad_buddies IRC newbie guide-http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/47221[/small]
[bold]LMFAO[/bold] First off Damon , hasn't your policewoman girlfriend of yours banned you from eating crisps !!??! lol :c) I don't know why crisps are called chips in Oz as that's a totally american term & yet as far as I know you're still under Queen's rule [tee-hee]. Wahoo for chish & fips.... (Walkers crisps are the only choice)
Ok I'll address the misguided and ignorant British comments first. [bold]Carefree[/bold] A fish 'n' chip shop normally doesn't sell Chips, so its a moot point, but IF they do we have an inbuilt mechanism for identifing between HOT CHIPS and chips. First off, if we're buying BOTH fish and chips, we say "FishanChips" as a single word so everyone knows, or we just bloody well say "I'll have a piece of Cod and some HOT chips, oh and a carton of XXXX, mate (every fish'n'chip shop in Australia sells Beer too). [bold]Herbs[/bold] You said you wouldn't tell everyone that my Girlfriend rules my life!! I'm whipped, I know it, but I still eat the odd packet when she's not watching (I just have to hide the evidence, hehe). As for the American term, the Yanks invented the Potato Chips , so thats why we friggin call it a Chip, not a Crisp!! The Potato Chip was invented by George Crum in 1853 in New York. http://www.ideafinder.com/history/inventions/story007.htm You Brits are always making up your own names for things that already have names! But the truth is out there now for all to see! [bold]Its Chips or Potato Chips, not Crisps!![/bold] _X_X_X_X_X_[small]AKA: TRHR. ...and history obviously started in 1853 did it ? LOL Just cos Australia is only a few hundred yrs old [to the white man at least] ... that doesnt mean that was the start of time itself :c) We often create the words [us brits] but then the language gets bastrdized by many a different nations ... prey do not continue down this path as I feel you're floggin' a dead horse (lmfao) " God save the Queen... "
Wow lets braek out the swords. the Brits versus the Ausy vs the Yanks. Quite odd, if we want to go to history. French fries is a term invented by us Canadians. The brits living in upper Canada hatted the french living in lower Canada that when the fried up some fries, they imagined the french friing up in oil. So French fries is a term to imagine the french people friing up and dying in oil. So calling them Freedom fries because the USA don't like the french now is just plan stupid. So that a new point of fun. And can't you buy Ketchup chips in the states. That is just quite odd.
We actually had Meat Pie and tomato sauce flavoured chips in Oz, i kidd you not! Through they weren't very popular, that meaty taste made you fart like a horse too.
As long as they taste good I could give a rat's ass what they're called _X_X_X_X_X_[small] JMLS-166S/Plextor PX-708A/Plextor Premium My Movies! http://www.intervocative.com/dvdcollection.aspx/Rephaim Got Indie? http://cdbaby.com/[/small]
We Brits have invented lots of strange things. The Americans and the Australians are two of them. We never learn by our mistakes do we?
Nephilim Only joking, we could be distant cousins. Best not get into that topic, I've seen the film 'deliverance'
"Will it be mushrooms , fried onion rings ... you'll have to wait & see .... hope it's chips it's chips ... we hope it's chips it's chips..." Bird's Eye :c)
