I have been reading for years how the poor Music & Movie Industry have suffered, and I for the life of me cannot engender one iota of sympathy for them. We have had Cd's and DVDs now for about 25 years and the Music and Movie Giants have done nothing to prevent blank CD&DVD from coming on to the market, they also put such an exorbitant price on new CD & DVD that it is no wonder many of the buying public have tried to get a cheaper copy. So up have sprung multiple companies providing coping programs for almost nothing and making it so easy for all and sundry to copy whatever they wanted. Greed that's what is was all about, even the most uninformed of us could work out what the overall cost of producing a CD or DVD when done in bulk, just a few cents, they then the put these new Cd's & DVDs on the market at somewhere around 1000% markup and expect the public to pay or go without. How smart would it have been for them to buy up all the Blank CD & DVD companies or to get the government to legislate that any Blanks could only copy ordinary Data not music files or AVi type files, then they could have sold all of there Cd's and DVDs at a very small price and made a mint of money. Or conversely if they sold all the new Movies and Cd's at a low price it would be cost inhibitive for people to bother coping. I understand that this scenario is after the horse has bolted but surly they could rein in the sales of blanks and lower their prices, I think this would help to solve their problems. I welcome any critics, if anyone has posted something in this vein before, then I'm sorry, but feel free to criticize. Brian
The real problem I see with the music industry is the CD...I know they have gone to a lot of MP3 sales, but this is really just selling a rip of a CD; it isn't even as good as the outdated CD it is replacing...and it is only as good as a low quality torrent (high quality torrents with FLAC files are actually better). I've got 5.1 on from my PC, 7.1 from my media center, 5.1 from my PS3...I even have a 5.1 system in my car. DVDs had 5.1 years ago and now my blurays have 7.1...and the best the record companies can offer is still 2.0? Pathetic. As for the movie industry, they are just hurting for lack of compelling subject matter, or rather, lack of interest in making movies with compelling subject matter. You don't hear James Cameron complaining that Avatar didn't make enough money, do you?
