...Like using CMC Mag, burn @X20 compilations of 4.5GB on a DVD5, or play Halo 3 while burning :~)!

If Shrink was the only reason you needed Nero, somebody definitely steered you wrong, especially since Nero 8 isn't supported. I believe VSO's CopyToDVD was updated for Vista and it's still a supported Shrink burner app. Since Nero 8 Ultra has Nerovision and the other features like Recode, it wasn't a waste.

yes DVDFab Platinum has its own burning engine

I'm hoping someone can help me with my Nero/DVD Shrink problem.

I recently got a new Vista computer, so installed DVD Shrink and Nero 8. I then experienced the same problems reported here - my DVDs would not play beyond 15 or so minutes in a DVD player. So, again following the advice here, I uninstalled Nero 8, and installed Nero 7. However, now when I go to use DVD Shrink, and click on Backup, it does not give me the option to burn to disc. Next to "select backup target" it says "(to enable burning, please install Nero)." It's as though DVD Shrink is not recognizing that Nero is installed on my computer any more. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Nero, and two different versions of Nero 7. No success. Nero itself works fine. It's just that DVD Shrink will not recognize it.

    Any advice?

Thank you so much in advance.

Reinstall DVD Shrink also, and make sure you have checked the box that says "enable burning with Nero", or something like that(don't remember the exact wording).

Sorry, think I goofed this up as this is my first REPLY.
I too had to go thru lots of DVDs to find out that Nero 8 hoses the burns.
My Question is: PACman777 implies that IMGBURN can maybe be "installed" into Shrink somehow to replace the NERO engine?
Is this true? If so, can someone explain how?
Now i do the 2 step process of Shrink to HD, then Nero 8 to DVD but am going to try IMGBURN today.
Would be nice to put IMGBURN IN the shrink program to make it an one step process again.

    Thanks

Ignore my last post as I went to other posts and got (I think) all my answers about IMGBURN and Shrink. Have not tried it yet but do plan to try today.

THANKS to all but especially PACMAN777. (and the person that wrote that little guide on adding IMGBURN to Shrink)

for those others that are struggling with the NERO 8/Shrink problem, and have decided to try IMGBURN, YOU HAVE TO GO TO THIS LINK. MAN, is it great for the AUTO feature of IMGBURN. I only use Yuden and Verbatim (Mitsubishi), considering the bad burns with the cheaper media, I find in time and throw aways, the cheap ones are not worth it as these two have NEVER been the cause of a throw away. If I get a bad burn, I always look for the problem somewhere else. Which is why I had to look for why Nero 8/Shrink gave me some problems.
Here is the link for IMGBURN Auto feature.

As for the DVDFAB, good product, but I have had mixed results with it but always seem to go back to Decryptor/Shrink for reliability.

    You're welcome.

Fasfrank has a link for all that's needed for the ImgBurn support with DVD Shrink: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/DVD_Shrink_3_2_b_w_IB.zip
If you already have the last Shrink installed, simply follow the instructions in the readme to install the exe for ImgBurn support.

Thank you both for your replies. I have continued trying to fix this problem.

I don't see any Nero related box to check, so I'm not certain if perhaps there is something I am doing wrong there.

I uninstalled DVD Shrink from my computer, downloaded it again from here, and reinstalled it on my computer. The first time, everything works fine. It allows me to select my DVD-RW drive to write the image to, and burns the DVD as normal. The second time I go to use Shrink, however, it again only allows me to select my hard drive, telling me "to enable burning, please install Nero."

I have been through this process several times now. I uninstall DVD Shrink, reinstall, get one good burn, then it doesn't let me burn again. Over and over.

    Any suggestions?

I don't get an option to put the checkmark by my DVD drive. The only thing that comes up under "select backup target" is "Create ISO image file" and "Create DVD files" (which gives me the hard disc folder). To the right of "select backup target" is a clickable link that read "(To enable burning, please install Nero.)" The link just brings me to the Nero homepage.

Nero is definitely installed and working. And DVD Shrink will recognize Nero, and allow me to select my DVD drive and burn the first time after I re-install DVD shrink. But the second time, the DVD drive option disappears, and it's telling me to install Nero.
