you say that you copied the games that you put on memosux to TY? I thought bad media was said to just make coasters, that is that they fail to burn successfully or play successfully. You guys seem to be concerned about their long-term quality. Is this what people worry about with bad media? Can one expect memorex burned games to quit working long before TY? any idea of the difference?

It's based on many factors: Percentage of successful burns, long term wear and tear on the PS2 laser, games failing to boot, games not working after a couple weeks or months, skips, slow loading times, and freezes. I could go on, but you get the idea. There seems to be this myth that TY and Verbatim are incredibly expensive. That's not true at all. You can pick up some Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's for great prices at http://www.supermediastore.com They are legit and that's where all my media will come from in the future. At the end of the 100 pack, I will tally up all the bad burns I have because of the disks. So far it's 25/25. I wouldn't expect it to change. I've burned downloaded games, horribly scratched rentals, and they play perfectly. The fact is when you can pick up the good stuff for less than the garbage, why would you get the Memorex, Imation, Staple's, Dynex, Princo's, Bulqpaq's, or any other God awful media? I'm not meaning to preach, but if everybody used Taiyo Yuden media, I think that would alleviate 90% of the problems in the PS2 DVD forums relating to bad burns, games not booting with Swap Magic or a chip, etc.

I 2nd that. And guess what? I just checked out the media code on those Office Depot DVD-Rs I mentioned earlier, and they are RitekG05! And these are the latest batches too. I had some awhile ago, and those were RitekG04. Here's the info for it.

    Office Depot 8X DVD-R

Ok Iv read thru this entire topic and am more confused more now than before.
Here's the burn and play method I have setup:

DVd RW Burner- Liteon SOHW 1693S Latest firmware

Burning software- At lowest speed, alcohol 120 Version 1.9,Dvd Decryptor

    PS2- Version 5/6

PS2 boot method- swap magic 3.6

DVD5 media- DVD+R Verbatim MCC 003, Sony richcon or something:S

Actions I'v taken- Cleaned the laser with Q tip and wipe down with clean cloth

    Problems I'v been having:

Dragon Quest 8- Long load times during battle sequence, long load times during entering, exiting rooms.

NFS Underground- Im middie of race, game has to stop and load up rest of map to carry on.

The only of my games that works is resident evil 4. I'v burnt it with the same method.

So why are my games not running correct:

Is the media that im using for my burner/ps2 not very compatible for my ps2 version?

Secondly what type media should I use DVD+R or DVD-R for my ps2 version 5/6?

I really dont want to go out and buy DVD+R media only to find out that I need DVD-R media. So please help me out by getting what I need. :)

Well there's a couple problems I see. Dragon Quest VIII has a 50 MB dummy file. Try rebuilding it with Nero and IsoBuster. When rebuilding you have to overwrite the dummy files with a text file. Secondly you might want to use DVD-R's. At least booktype the DVD+R's if you haven't already. In DVD Decrypter there is a book in the bottom right hand corner of the program. Click it. Find your make and model of burner and booktype it for the correct type of media. Lastly speed up your burns to 2x or 4x.

    10. Q. What does rebuilding an iso mean?
    A. It means that some games 4.36-4.38GB's may need rebuilt to work with Swap Magic. Games over 4.38GB's will need rebuilt. This isn't true for ALL games over 4.38GB's and differs on a game to game basis. There is no need to rebuild games if you have a modchip.

    11. Q. How Do I rebuild games?
    A. With Nero and Isobuster (works as long as no single file is over 2 GB's): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/197949
    With CD/DVDGen: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210515

    49. Q. I'm rebuilding game X, I'm concerned it has dummy files. How do I identify the dummy files?
    A. From Hursty: When you see the iso has dummy files.i.e 00DUMMY. 01DUMMY. GARBAGE ETC, you need to get rid of them, by replacing them with a file. So on the desktop, right click the mouse, select "new" > text document and rename it as it appears in isobuster, then click enter. Then open the text document on the desktop, hit space once, then save, this will create a text document with 1 byte in it, Do this for all the dummy files you have, as some games have more than one.

    53. Q. What is Booktyping?
    A. Booktyping is the ability to burn a DVD+R so it that appears as a pressed DVD-ROM in any DVD-ROM drive it's inserted in. If you booktype DVD+R's, this allows for greater compatibility with most stand alone DVD players, including your PS2. Your burner has to support booktyping (most newer ones do).

If DVD+R's allow you to change the book type to DVD-Rom, would it not be a better media type to choice over the DVD-R's in order to obtain better compatibility for the PS2? I am still unsure which type to use for backups for the new slimline PS2.

v.1-3 PS2's don't read backups well. They MAY work, it's just not all that likely. The slims should work fine with DVD+R's or DVD-R's.

Oh yeah I have a hot date later err no that was a dream about Jessica Alba I had last night. Glad you liked the FAQ. Your PS2 can play burned DVD-R movies with no mod, just not burned DVD-R games.

Well I don't know. The Duo2SE is a nice chip. I would DEFINITELY make sure I know that my PS2 would read backups before I paid a guy to install a chip. Make sure he's reputable. Mention to him that you heard that v.1-3 PS2's don't read backups well, if at all. That info is straight from my mod guy, Dave at teammodders.com. He knows his stuff and was straight with me at every turn. If you detect a lot of BS in the guy's answer, look elsewhere. It seems to me he should know that v.1-3 PS2's don't read backups well. Almost any reputable mod site on the net won't even work on em. I have a v.4 PS2, and a lot of sites won't touch them. There are a lot of shady mod guys, so beware.

man.... u keep comin up big tokijin, thanks again ill triple check evrything i do but u mention to know for sure if my ps2 can play backups before i get the chip, but how would i kno that unless he installs the chip and it works/not works????? is there some way to check?? if theres no way to tell before he puts in a chip then i might just check with a few friends to see if their ps2 is v5 or later and convince em to switch with me since none of em care bout this stuff

Well if your friends would allow you to trade for a v.5, definitely do that. There would definitely be no issues playing backups with a v.5 PS2. Other than installing the chip or trying it with Swap Magic, there isn't any way to know for sure if your PS2 will work with backups. I use TYG02. So far they are 35/35 with no skips, lags, or boot failure's.
