    @ NuBbZ

Ritek and Fuji discs both seem to come highly reccomended. Especially the Ritek. Have heard good and bad things about memorex. Like i said i'm still using walmart brand ILO discs and they work fine for me, just have to burn slow (which u should anyway)Everyone has their own preference, u should try out a few different brands and see what you like. Always burn at a slow rate though. 4x seems to be fastest suggested and that's what i usually burn at with no problems. good luck.

    So someone correct me here.

I have a stock standard ps2 (no modchip) and I have hdloader on there. Can I play GT4 on it? Do I just need to flattern the image of the disc to a DVD5 image.

    ToxicOS 0.3 has been released!

    http://web02063.prolocation.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7138

Two things I love about this...

"DVD-9 games such as Gran Turismo 4 are now playable from the HDD."

    &

"48-bit LBA support added, while keeping support for 28-bit applications on the same HDD (such as the Sony browser upgrade)."

Now we can break that 137GB limit!!!

is it me or are the topics in this thread going slightly of course?

also, people should reallyl look through the thread/site for simple answers they are looking for, i find its quite annoying...this site does have a search feature, try and use it....

Oh ok, well I did flattern the DVD to a DVD5 following this guide: http://www.ps2hd.com/forums/faq.php?faq=dvd9

But it loads that initial copyright screen then just goes black after that. I tried putting it on mode 3 also with no luck.

Hi. First off please DON'T BLAST ME for not reading the 13 PAGES OF THIS THREAD.

When GT4 first came out here in the US a couple of months ago I bought it. Like all my games I buy, I wanted to make a backup b4 my game got scratched at all.

I READ THE ENTIRE 39 PAGE THREAD of the original GT4 Back-up thread before it got locked like a month ago.

I'm checking back now to see if anyone has been able to sucessfully make a working backup yet.

If so just same yes (and post a link to where the instructions are in this thread) or NO.

    Thanks alot.

    NO.

However, you really should read THIS thread, it has a lot of valuable info and history on the game.

    Unofficial Status : We're Close.
We just need to figure out the DVD9 -> DVD5 checks, and we're good to go.

so is the issue that the game goes back several times to check if its an original or not?

if its a dual layer issue, the latest version of sonys CDDVD_Generator has an option for building a dual layer dvd. Hase anyone tried rebuilding the image in dual layer and burning to a dual layer dvd?

as for doing it in a single layer, it would seem that you would need to change the file order, alternating between the files from layer 0 and layer 1.

Is it just me or has the conversation on this thread seemed to have fallen back a week or two. it's like deja-vu. for those of you just joining in, please go back and read the rest of the thread. at least from about page 11 or 12 up to now. This way we can avoid having the same conversation over and over and over

Pardon me for being a noob, but how exactly do you find these DVD checks and bypass them. Do you need a hex editor or a special program? I would love to help, I just don't quite understand the process.

Well, L-Burna devotes some of his time to finding the DVD checks. His current problem lies in the sheer amount of DVD checks. He's been looking for a program that will automatically patch the DVD9 checks to DVD5 size. It'd take forever if he were to try to edit all the checks manually.

As for other people? Possibly the console gods Gherudos (I don't know if he's a member here) and Sonix and maybe a few others. I guess I'll have to ask them personally. In all truths, it's hard to say who's doing what.

You see, people are devoting their time to this as a hobby. It's not something that is constantly worked on, day-in-day-out unless the people working on this game are THAT dedicated.

And yes, it's just checking the files in a hex editor. If you want more info on the specifics of it, ask L-Burna, I consider him the GT4 guru here, as he's the only one really doing anything for the rest of us.

Hey, L-Burna, if you read this, just know that we're all very glad that you bother to do what we can't, just for the sake of having it done.

Hey L-Burna...if there is anything I can do to help, let me know. I don't know too much about these exact dvd checks, but I am familiar with coding.

The checks are hidden or encrypted aren't they?

It can't be something as simple as having the DVD checks being plainly viewable in a hex editor, can it? I mean, the only thing stopping us isn't the sheer number of them, is it?

Is there some kind of encryption method? Or can the files simply be changed by hand by changing the actual calls to the second layer? If that's the case, then how come none of Sonix's tools can be used to do that?

What I'm saying is that I'd like to be enlightened on the current state. What are the checks, how are they being found, and how are they being changed?

You've talked about opening up files in hex, but I can't seem to even begin navigating my way around any of that.

What I'm asking L-Burna is : How are you finding/replacing the checks?

If changing them only requires a few things be replaced by hand, then I (or someone else) could probably write a simple console program to do it.
