First get linux not evox on your xbox make a Win98 setup disc into an xiso format burn it to DVD-R and Run linux and then place the disc in the tray and then reboot the console you should be start let it burn to your system then pop in win xp's setup disc you shoul be greeted in well manner you might want to find the guide to install win 98 they will tell you how thhis is about 300$+ if you have a problem dont forget the simplae stuff like to upgradeto high processors ( AMD IS BEST) upgrade to plenty of ram amd hard drive space if you encounter problems catch me on another thread
Are you on drugs? XP on an xbox..in your dreams!!.. There isn't enough ram and the xbox does not run exe executable files... You can run windows 3.1 quite successfully in the dosbox emulator. There is a demonstration of XP called phoenix. Doesn't work for anything but not bad for a proof of concept. Get ready for the spam...
Sounds cool but it doesn't really explain how to do it that well. Most people need an in depth tutorial. Like me for instance. This tutorial isn't specific enough for me to even try this. Plus you aren't allowed to post your email, so you might want to take that out. Read the forum rules!
Hey FuZ3..guess what. Why doesn't the article explain how to do it? Because it isn't possible, that's why. XP needs 128MB ram as an absolute minimum..xbox 64MB.. Game over. There isn't even enough ram to run the desktop and services (even if you could run exe files..which you can't).. It's another pile of BS from somebody else who obviously has no friends or life..Just an attention seeker who will swallow any crap they see on the internet..Bet he's got a 360 chip too and running xp on it!! LMAO! Lets pick the post apart shall we (I have nothing better to do for a few minutes) 1. You can't upgrade 98 to XP..different file system (WTF is that bull about $300??) 2. The maximum ram in an xbox is 128MB 3. You can get an xbox with an upgraded cpu for $760 4. He obviously has never even seen an xbox and knows nothing about computers because you can't swap an Intel cpu for an AMD without changing motherboards. 5. As I posted before..some developers worked for 3 years to recode xp and managed to get it to load the desktop with no working applications. Why did you even post asking for a tutorial and a walkthrough..maybe you know as little as the moron who posted that shite in the first place. 6. What the hell does installing linux achieve? Nothing 7. How do you make a bootable xiso of XP setup without a default.xbe file? What an idiot...I'd laugh my ass off but it's just too moronic for words. BTW..It's an AK47 DUH!!
Ok check this out this is just a joke i have evo-x with 2 apps DVD2XBOX DVDRegion X With some custom skins THis is just some thing i dis for my last post of the night
WTF.....Dude this isn't a forum to post pointless crap...This is a forum if you need help or have a question. Not just too "dis" people because it was your last post of the night.... *sigh*
it is possible, it invoves completly deleting ur old dashboards everything! and basically just installing xp___ 2 complicated 2 even explain
Again..without every app having a default.xbe...HOW?? Simple answer..Can't be done!..As I posted before. Find the demo app called Phoenix. It's an xp desktop demo for the xbox. That's as close as you are going to get. Forget the crap and try reading a little about how the xbox works instead of perpetuating rubbish. Notice how as a small time coder and hacker I don't use txt spk? It's a fact that coding is a precise art. If you don't even have enough of a grasp of language to post coherently and with correct usage of language then.... Ahh, never mind. Try either reading one or two technical papers about the xbox instruction set and custom programming language, or just carry on txting your friends.
putting xp on a xbox is possible but not do able. mainly because the .exe problem the 128mb ram limit is a joke tbh as you can get xp pro working on a machine with a p2 266 or 300mhz celeron with 64 mb ram. for example, i put xp pro onto a ibm 240 this involved taking out the laptop hard drive "as it has no cd rom" installing the hard drive in another machine start the install and when it gets to the final stage to restart i removed it and put it back in the ibm 240 finished the install and presto on the laptop i was thinking the same with the xbox is possible but again the .exe problem comes into play yet again also the whole hotswap with xp can only be done if the intial install on the first machine had the same/similar cpu archtecture and to answer someone elses question whey turn a xbox into a pc "cheapest wordprocessor ever"
Heh Heh Heh...the 128 is a stumbler. I have had xp running on a 486 with 16MB ram..Click a button..wait 10 minutes..crash. Same on a p2 333 with 64..miss a button and it locks up. There is no way past the xbe issue without emulating pc architecture..and then you run out of ram and cpu cycles. Pointless discussion anyway..for the xbox, use linux written for it, and don't even go there with MS crap bloatware. lol As to the cheapest wordprocessor ever. The pc I use for my internet stuff cost less than £30 for everything..a p3 600 with 512MB ram..and that does a crap job of xp..that's why the debian ;-) Anyway..this is one of the most pointless threads I have ever seen on AD.. Time for it to end methinks..unless any more n00bs want to post pad here..in which case I'm happy to post another 500 or so pointless replies to a dead and disproved subject.
well with 64mb it does not lock up i can assure, u by disabling the pointless visual options ie click start click control panel click "switch to classic view" unless it already is at it click system properties click advanced /settings and turn off all the pointless advanced shaders etc apart from the bottom one "use visual styles" and it will boost the perfomance i agree 512 ram is minimal for todays computers but on older machines 64 mb is more than enougth to play some older games and some open source new ones like uplink as for wordprocesser 64 mb is more than enougth i know this as i currently use a ibm 240-laptop, with 5gb hard drive, 64 mb ram 16mb video memory, celeron 300 with xp pro, lopht crack, and office 2003 installed no problem just a little slow using power point as for getting a computer for £30 quid of the spec u mentioned is difficult, coz demand is high, especially for the ones i like "the small pretty black ones" if it where possible to xp pro on the xbox, it would provide the cheapest wordprocessor "readily availble" at a more fixed cost, somthing that can be REproduced as leasure the only things that i know is currently doable on a xbox is linux os, 2 people "inculding yourself" say debian but im not a big debian fan, its a bit too business orientated for my tastes, the point reason people want os other than linux is they want somthing there more familiar with and somthing they can also reproduce easily to apease the majority who may ask them for a xp box in oppose to a linux in an ideal world, i would love to have 7 xboxs ontop of each other in a perfect row, one for a smoothwall linux firewall, one for mac os, one for xp, one for madiva "mandrake", and one for a asterix system, the rest for games, and NAS capacity just for cheapness and practicallity of course only the linux side is feasible also i noticed on a earlier post you mentioned you can not update 98 to xp welll thats true and false, a windows 98 disc is commonly used to assist in setting up xp pro on the odd older machines that have rather odd o/s when i say windows 98 disc this is of course a "boot up disc" this can be on floppy or cd i have no recolection how i did it since the last time i touched 98 was in 2001, in fact i used 98 and was quite proficent in some of the odditys with it till 2002 when i went to xp you can upgrade 98 to xp, but newer discs dont seem to allow this i am unsure. i have 3 xp discs xp xp sp1 xp sp2 xp disc will no longer allow it self to be installed on most newer motherboards "well the ones i bought this included msi (i regret buying it) a asus and a gigabyte" but previously i upgraded a machine's with this disc from 98 sp2 or/and 2000 sp1/sp2/sp3 "i know only it was not sp4" cant quite recall but i do recall it was fat 32 filing system the earlier versions of xp permitted the installation in the fat 32 format, of course the maximum hard drive permitted is 200gb on fat 32, and you lose about 10gb i think thats why for about a year maxtor sold capacity limiters on there hard drives so it can be partitioned for fat 32 users to be able to make fuller use of the hard drive sorry i guess i type too much
oh forgot to mention xp sp1 - this is still being allowed on newer components except "msi in my experience" and you can use sp1 on fat 32 versions of xp pro xp sp2 - all bets are off, if you do it there way or hit the highway, i have avoided many of the newer options for months but they change so regulary now its becomeing a joke, these are the legitmacy issues that prop up and have now been well suttly disguised to the background now, since of the sheer range of compliants/ flaws and of course lawsuits
If They can find away to fix all of the problems to run XP you can probubley run TinyXP which will run on 64MB(Might me 128MB though)
windows xp will run on 64 mb no need to go running looking for mini or cut down versions 128mb is recommended minimum and on occasions xp will try and stop you from installing it on machines with less than 128 soooo many ways around that
What is the point of continuing to argue about this ?? You cannot run an exe based application on an xbox. The only two ways to run them is in the dosbox emulator that just about manages to run 386 era games, and with Wine running under linux..both of which crap out as soon as you try to load an application. Tiny XP..what makes you people imagine that is even worth the effort? It's a demo. It also doesn't work for anything. If it was possible to do anything worthwhile with xp on an xbox don't you think the internet would be full to bursting of howto's?? It's not and that's all you need to know. As for getting around the 128MB ram limit on install..yeah you can but remember xp uses approximately 150MB just for the 5 instances of svchost and apache and all the other garbage that it insists on to run in it's buggy and inadequate way. Argue as much as you want about it..You just continue to prove how little you really know about the operation and hardware of the xbox. As to the very good points you make about using a 98 boot disk in the install of xp.. It's to run fdisk to blitz all the old fat 32 partitions off drives or to load a cd driver on certain older hardware that doesn't have cd drivers in the bios. 98 will boot an xp cd at which point the install gives the option to format and partition the drive fat32 or ntfs.. It wipes the OS completely whichever option is chosen.. As for a cheap word processor..think on this..What bi-directional ports does an xbox have. There are strange issues with the usb controller hub. I've tried to run a printer out of them and they seem to be one way.. There is no way of burning either.. it's been tried but not very successfully due to the strange register setup in the cpu IT pro guys with 25 years experience...And I currently have 18 chipped xboxes sitting in 4 heaps running all sorts of things. My base xbox setup is 8 for hosting games online. Most have had the ram upgraded by me to get the boost for linux to run kai properly without tying up a pc as well.
Wow! I didn't know you can upgrade RAM on an xbox(Unless I didn't understand correctley and you ment PC)....And yes guys Jan knows her computers and Xboxs
Hi tocool.. You can add another 64MB if you can find the right samsung ram chips, and your soldering skills are up to fitting 4x60 leg surface mount chips. Not fun..a very high risk of killing it completely.
But windows 98 isn't xp is it? As for bootx.. It has nothing to do with anything.. It's for running linux from the mac osx. And quik? Seems we have somebody else who is easy to shoot down.. Before trying to sound clever do some research or provide links to back your statements up eh? This is the closest anybody has ever come. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/lofiversion/index.php/t136234.html And they didn't last very long either. As I said before, I'm happy to destroy this argument all day.
janrocks go to hell, i have agreed with you on the .exe and disagreed on your opinion of a few that say "there is no point of getting xp on a xbox", i dont give the "25 years experience" issue to fall back to look supperior, especially since the main topic involving windows xp, and the refrences to earlier versions and some other os's are not 25 years old. its like saying "i know all about psp, 10 years before it was released" i know people, have been trying to crack the xbox so to speak to get xp on it for quite some time, with mixed results "mixed results of failure" and i know by the time they figure it out, "there will be no point" due to the fact the new ms OS Vista will be the new flavour then the new encrytion used on the xbox 360, some might try to break that instead in view of vista, which again seems like a more daunting task as for your explanation about 64mb vs 128mb i know its flawed. i am not one to argue since you are the one throwing punchs, i have to tell you are incorrect i dont care what you say, and i will prove it, im heading out later but hopefully tommorow i will upload a wee video of the ibm 240 with a puny 64 mb running xp pro with office 2003, and maybe a side note of uplink or syndicate wars to boot if i am ever unsure of a topic or area i mention it, if you read my post its mostly positive critism, i just dont get why you have to become a arumenative pain towards me
