The purpose of this thread is to make the backup process as easy as possible. If you are having problems with a specific movie chances are you will find a link to a thread where the problem with making a backup are solved. In order to increase your chance of success please keep your programs up to date. This thread will also contain links to guides to help you through the backup process and links to the software that you will need to backup your movies.

Some of the programs included in this thread are no longer being developed, but in most cases can still be effective. This threads resources will continue to grow as new programs, copy protection schemes and solutions are introduced. Please contact a staff member with links to any programs or links that I may have left out so that we can keep this thread updated to provide an effective resource for our users.

Please don't use this as a discussion thread. Instead use it to post updated links so that they can be inserted into the relevant location.

NOTE: This thread contains links to both freeware and paid for programs. Afterdawn is not asking you to make any purchases. In most cases the end result can be achieved with either freeware or pay for programs and the links are included for your convenience...the choice is yours whether or not to go the freeware route or put up additional money to accomplish your task.

Rippers/Decrypters: These tools are listed in no particular order, but concerning freeware vs. payware they are listed in my preference of usefulness, effectiveness and also popularity on this forum. This is just my opinion and the points of efficiency and effectiveness should be based on your personal beliefs so take it for what it's worth.

Transcoders: Some freeware and some not. Most of the products that are not free do carry a trial period for you to try before your buy.

I was actually going to go back through the forums and hunt up threads for the past movies that people had difficulty with, but all the Saw's and Lords of Dogtown's etc. should be old news by now and easily defeated simply by making sure the current software is up to date. So I'll just add links to movies from here forward. :)

    Thanks to everyone else.

dvd shrink says I need an ASPI initialized and I can not get any of the others Any DVD / DVD Fab or image burn to do anything.
I am truly ready to throw the computer out the window-- can anyone help me.
I am trying to copy the movie Winds of War and have only one dvd spot

Try running your programs in computability mode. I'm also using Vista and have no problems with the above mentioned programs.

I think you have the term for "transcoder" and "encoder" tools messed up in your posts. You're missing QuEnc and AutoQMatEnc.

hmm, DvdReMake (Pro) does not qualify to be in your list!?

QuEnc is included in the installation for DVDRB.

Added: AutoQMatEnc & DVDRemake Pro links and descriptions.
