    I've been away for a while now and just started peaking in to see whazzzzzzzz up...... and I noticed this thread stickied! Now I know why! LOCOENG you did a great job putting this all together! Lots of thought and easy to look up anything! NIce! very nice! good job.

    Which of the tools there would be the best to convert 23.98 files to 25 with absolutely no artifacts?

    Please suggest programas I don't have to write scripts for, as I am not familiar with such routines.

    I haven't found a way without using AVIsynth as a frameserver to speed up the framerate correctly. There are many easier applications out there that resample the framerate to 25fps but this creates jerky video. The only true way to handle this conversion is to speed up the framerate slightly (23.876-->25). This is the way it is done in the studios.

    You will also need to re-encode the audio to match the new duration of the video which will be about 4% faster. Aside from that you will also need to resize the video from 720 x 480 to 720 x 576 if your source is a DVD. If your source is a media file, you may need to do more like add borders etc.

    I usually use Cinema Craft Encoder or TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress to do the encoding with AVIsynth doing the frameserving and filtering. If you don't like command line applications, you could try AVSedit, this is a GUI to write AVIsynth scripts for you.

    I have a box set ( family guy volume 6) and I'm trying to get the first episodes from the first disc. so....

    well, I can rip the five episodes from the the first dvd and it converted fine, but when I try to do the second episode, it keeps ripping the first one!

    I am using dvd decrypter and videora ipod converter.

    The box set is family guy volume 6.

    It is in IFO and I've followed all instructions. Can someone please help

    Re DVD Decrypter, try something up to date such as DVDFab HD Decrypter (free) - http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm and as to videora ipod converter, that's a spammer's program of choice, i'd avoid. There's (for instance) the very good AutoGK (free) - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/autogk.cfm

    I have read through the DVD Shrink guide and thought that one thing could be added to it... what to do when DVD files will not compress to a 4.7GB dvd on the first attempt. I think that re-authoring and re-shrinking should be brought up, as well.

    I no longer use the program, but have seen the question arise numerous times about DVD Shrink not compressing to a 4.7 in one try and people puzzled as to what to do.

    It may also be a good idea to mention that DVD Shrink has not been updated since 2005 and is no longer supported... and cannot handle newer dvd encryptions alone.

    Changes to the guides should be directed at the authors or admin/staff members who can make such amendments. The guides aren't mine and I cannot edit them.

    I liked the whole post except where a person said"nero probly the best cd/dvd authoring tool out there"
    I find "nero" to be a bloated piece a crap that screws vista ultimate up..............bad!!!
    I wouldn't put it on my worst enmeys computer
    on vista ultimate use:
    ashampoo burning studio
    vso convert x 2 dvd
    ashampoo movie shrink
    k-lite mega codec
    xilisoft dvd creator
    clone dvd 2.9.2.0

    I have no trouble with these programs and get perfect quality movies
    although there are problem movies from time to time and like me
    your on your own there it's just trial and error at that point

    but to end I'll say it again IF YOU HAVE VISTA ULTIMATE AND WANT ALL YOUR DREAMS THUMBNAILS , ECT.......TO WORK.....THEN DON'T USE NERO!!! I can't speak for all versions of vista just ultimate but since I removed it a year ago I have no vista troubles
