I am about to be making alot of backups for alot of different versions of the ps2. I think that I could be alot of use by posting games that dont work. Also others can mention games that dont work and others can reply on what is wrong. When you post to this thread, please be sure to mention your ps2 version number, and type of media used, and record speed only.

P.s. I use Primo DVD V.2 to record.

So far what I have that dont work:

Splinter Cell - 1x record - verbatim - any version (probably due to double disc check)

MLB 2004 - 2x record - verbatim - only works below version 7 (again probably due to double boot check)

Primal - 1x and 2x record - verbatim - wont work in any ps2 (unsure why wont work)

Tenchu - 1x and 2x record - verbatim - wont work in any ps2 (again unsure)

Anything needed to be added, please do so, be sure that it fits within the parameters of this thread and if you have gotten something listed by me or someone else to actually work, list what you have and did to get it to do so. :)

I have not been able to get Tomb Raider : Angel of Darkness to boot with a V7 PS2 and a Swap Magic V2 w/Flip top lid.

I have not been able to find any info on this on the net as of today...anybody else try Tomb Raider with any success...

I wish that my V1 ps2 didn't burn out a few months back...I'd probably be able to boot everything!

    Lupin-
I know you've probably made a lot of backups but what media and program are you using?
I have not had any trouble with any games including some on jaykool's list including Hitman 2, Splinter Cell and Tenchu. I have not tryed to play a backup of Tomb Raider : Angel Of Darkness.
In my opinion the best program to use is Nero at 1x read and burn speed, Verbatim DVD-R are good, but I have found that Maxell 4.7gig DVD-R are just as good... possibly better. One more question... what color does the Swap Magic show when you try to boot the game? Green, Red, Or Blue? What does it do after that?

Well, I've made about 10 backups so far, and the only ones that wouldn't boot are Splinter Cell, which we know is because of the double disk verification routine that the V7 ps2 goes through...

and Tomb Raider...which gets a blue border from the Swap Magic disc..then just hangs.

I don't think it's the medium that I'm using (Maxell), and I use Nero to burn, which is the most reliable software out there.

I'm sure that there will be news on Tomb Raider soon...hopefully it's not the start of some new Anti-Swap Disc encryption on all new ps2 games! That would stink. ;-Þ

You know, if a DVD backup doesn't boot with Swap Magic then all you need is Action Replay or Game Shark.

    Kinda makes this thread redundant.

I can't get Tomb Raider to work either. Same problem. I have gotten Primal to work though.

    Version 7 Ps2 w/ no-solder and Swap Magic v2

Gameshark doesn't work with a modded Version 7, thats why I use Swap Magic.

Hm, I was not aware of the V7 issues with AR/GS. I guess the thread isn't reduntant to V7 users then! ;)

I'll pitch in with a list of backups that don't work with Swap Magic -

The Getaway, Pro Evolution Soccer 2, Hitman 2, Splinter Cell, Soul Calibur 2 & Xenosaga.

That's on a V4 PS2 with no-solder. Backed up with DVD Decrypter. Of course they all play with Action Replay.

I'm not sure why people are having trouble with Splinter Cell and Hitman 2 backups. I have both of these games, and they both work fine with Swap Magic. It all depends on how you burn and what media you are using. I use Maxell 4.7gb DVD-R and Nero at 1x. They work for me.

Yes Yes, lots of talk..."I can get Splinter Cell or Hitman or etc. etc. to work." but I fail to see any SPECIFICATIONS. (or not enough to be useful.)

Okay, here's my questions to anybody who claims that they can get a backup on the list to "work" with Swap Magic Disc and a flip top lid, and NO mod chip in their PS2.

    1. What Software do you use to burn the games?
    2. What method do you use to burn on that specific software? (make an iso? burn on the fly between two drives?)
    3. What speed do you burn at?
    4. What type of discs do you use? DVD-R or DVD+R? What Brand?
    5. What version PS2 do you have?

and for users who do not use a mod-chipped system, how in the world would you use a Gameshark or Action Replay to boot a backup?? As far as I know the only way to boot a game with a GS or an AR is with a mod chip.

Hopefully, whoever makes the Magic Swap have a V3 in the works....
