I'm trying to flash my starview box on a borrowed laptop and for some reason it doesn't recognise the different com ports. I bought a null modem cable with a female to female port and the other cable which enabled me to connect it through USB. It's getting rather tedious now and would appreciate some down to earth help...PLEASE!!!!

well if it is your first atempt at flashing a box, then my advice to you is to dump the Adaptor give the laptop back, and get to a friends standalone PC with the correct 9 pin serial port on the back, it will save you a lot of headache. Also you do not say what Starview, so just have a look and see how easy it really is without the Adaptor. >>>>>>>>>>

Thanks Malci. I'm giving up to be honest. Have downloaded certain toolbars to get the keys in the meantime but even those can't seem to help me (still from 17/12). It's a GENUINE starview (I have read almost all the threads!) but my starview still says "no signal" which is different to the problems we've all been having lately.

Virgin have been playing funny buggers with my phone lately - I've had two engineers out to try and "fix" a dead phone line. the latest is that I've told them I'm not paying them until they fix the phone line, which isn't until the new year. I'm beginning to get a bit paranoid and think they are on to me...

I'm probably looking too deeply into it...I hope!

In the meantime, I've now d/l a toolbar onto my flatmates laptop which I can't get rid of, I can't get my starview working AND I've paid Maplin £20 for wires I can't chuffing use!!!

Know what you mean by Maplins, could have got the same stuff off fleabay for a fiver, but when you say NO Signal, then believe me it means just that - there is no signal, so even if the box was flashed then you still would not be able to use it. So get them out to get it sorted, especially if you have no phone working, it is a good while off January lol. And then use the first option I gave you in previous posts, and get to another PC, and the best of luck with VM but do it!!!!.

my Virgin box gives me the basic channels but my starview doesn't even give me that. Do you think it's something VM have done or has my box packed in?

...but all the codes are correct, the box just says that there isn't a signal?

did it work before. something could be wrong with the tuner or the version might not work in your area. are you sure the wire's in cable input and not the other rf.

No signal means no signal, which is usually a connection problem, so if you can try another box there just to rule out a problem with the connections, you would find out if your box is the problem.

Are you sure you have it set to the correct provider for your area?

flatmate had been messing about with tv and had put the wires back incorrectly. Problem solved - if only I had double checked in the first place! Apologies and thanks... :)

Yep. it is the wisest thing to do, check and double check, anyway it does happen, glad your sorted.
