Hey guys. I have a Wii for few months now and I was wondering that where I could find and buy a best Wii Chip you recommed in UK? I'm planning to get a I-Case Crystal Blue with LEDs Wii and do I need to get a special Wii Screwdriver as well? Anyway, I need you to help me understand where I can get this best wii chip I could buy in UK.

    Thank you.

I'd read the stickies and get as clued up as possible.

Genrally you need to ID your drive and then go for the appropriate chip, Wiikey if it's an older one or D2Ckey (or perhaps Argon) if it's a newer one. Like I say read the stickies (and other posts) cos it's all there.

Ok I just found out my ID is GC2-D2B.

"Your Drive Chip is most likely GC2-D2B.

There is a 12% chance that the pins on your drive chip are cut
and a 88% chance that that they are not cut."

The choice is yours but I would recommend what's tried and tested. If its D2B, I would go with a Wiikey, if its D2C, go with D2CKey.

Choosing older chips means that it is unlikely you will suffer from any bugs that newly released chips may suffer from, as older chips have a chance to iron them out, thus minimizing the risk of doing some serious damage to your Wii.

It's D2B so I'd go with Wiikey - which is what I chose when I had the option.

I myself am getting a Wiikey installed in a couple of days. I will let you know how it goes and if it is worth it.

What about AudioFix for WiiKey? Does it had a built-in AudioFix? I heard people having problems with audio which made me wondering.

I bought mine preinstalled and it cost very little over the cost of the actual Wii - it's defo worth it. You always have the option to swap it for summat else later I guess as it's not that big a job unlike the D2C chips.

Edit audio fix - that pertains to GC games I believe and I don't bother with them yet so can't say but it's supposed to be fixed afaik.

Generally, most Gamecube games audio works fine. There are a few problem games, but the numbers are very limited, and the chances of the Wiikey team creating an update, or even someone else creating some kind of fix is quite high.

A quick google search should show you the problem games. All the rest seem to be absolutely fine.

Ok, I found this site where I could get a WiiKey so is this product ok?

Also that I thinking of using this site to get this product called I-Case Crystal Blue with LEDs Wii

    I think it's a reasonable price.

I would be very careful of this site. Wiikey have released a list of confirmed genuine sellers which should be easy to find (even if their site is down). Often in these cases the Wiikey is fake, and the ideal price would actually be around 15 pounds. I am currently using modchipfitters who are a bit more pricey, but I can tell you if they are good or not in the next couple of days. The case should be OK though.

Also notice on the site it does not mention that the Wiikey is "Genuine."

The chip looks like a clone to me - I could be wrong and there are plenty of ppl using clones anyway. I doubt there is a problem but I can't say for sure.

The case - dunno... I'd never be interested in doing that kind of mod myself so I can't comment.

Edit - yeah £15-£20 is about standard - clones come in at about £10ish

I think I will used that modchipfitters.com as you mention it say Genuine. I will wait and see what you think about it, Oxadillia. Also let me know if it's a easy install.

I'm not installing the chip myself (getting it done professionally, I can't solder for my life) however determining the authenticity of this chip shouldn't be difficult. I had a previous attempt at installing it myself previously, and the only advice I can give you is:
Make sure you have a very good soldering iron. It is essential.
Ensure you are comfortable with soldering, especially on such a tiny chip.
Wear some kind of glove when handling the chip.
Make sure you know where the screws go (which I failed to do)
Have ample supplies of wire and solder.

Hmm I'm not good with soldering I believe.

Today they sent someone to pick up my Wii. It was a all done properly (by the Royal Mail) and not just some random guy on a bike. So far, so good...

I was also given a tracking number to see where my package is. It has arrived today, and I even have a signature of the person who signed for it (and a name). As I said before, so far so good (touch wood)[/quote]

Also sorry for the posts below. I'm not sure what's going on, things on my browser have been going from odd to weird - I'm switching to firefox soon.

Any doubt then get someone else to do it - I'm happy that I could fit a wiikey myself but I was lucky to see a premodded deal which cost me so little extra it wasn't worth my time to do it myself.

I cannot stress this enough. If you are new to soldering get a pro to do it. I went down the road of trying to do it myself thinking it can't be too difficult. How wrong I was. In the end it has cost me so much more than if I had done it professionally in the first place.
