I am blumming pissed with nearly 50% of all posts on every forum without proper grammar. I'm not talking about the downright spelling mistakes or those little things like "thx" I'm talking about:- can you read this can you really read this i have put no fullstops in this because i don't know how to spell or i lack the nowledge of being able to spell because well uh help me with my problem yes please please plzzzzz!!! If you want someone to be able to help you with your blumming problems, they need to know what your blumming problem is. AND HOW THE hell AM I SUPPOSED TO HELP YOU GUYS WHEN YOU CAN'T EXPRESS YOURSELF IN ENGLISH. JESUS CHRIST I AM SICK OF crap LIKE THAT. Just me ranting.
I remember a thread like that with all of the abreviated terms used liked Thx cud l8r etc....Its getting so bad, Londons Kiss 100 Radio station now has an add on it were a man reads everything out in text abreviations and it sounds like he is Jamaican....lol
If I can't understand what the hell someone wants because of atrocious grammar, spelling or internet slang I'll click right on past it. If they come here for help and don't have the common sense to word their post in a clear and concise manner then too bad for them. I come here for my own enjoyment and to help people, not try to decipher gibberish.
The thing is, there's nothing wrong with typing in whatever abbreviated gibberish you want to, but if you come to a forum where that's clearly not how we communicate you shouldn't do it. If I see a post like that I ignore it, just like I would if it were in any other language I'm not fluent in. I have no more need to learn 14 year old than I have to learn Yiddish (probably less actually) and I have no patience for people who expect me to learn their language so I can help them. I've already come here to help people out, the least they can do is meet me half way and ask their questions in an intelligible manner. Otherwise they can find a fellow 14 year old who knows what I/we do and ask them to explain it in 17 letters or less.
Some of these posters may not speak English as a first language. In that case correct grammar may be difficult for these individuals. I personally don't mind these sort of posts, it's kind of fun to decipher sometimes. Very true although it's usually quite easy (for me at least) to pick up that fact. Hell, many of the non-English speakers are more coherent and intelligible than these schmoes who grew up speaking English.
A classic (and very related) thread worth resurrecting, http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/65851 It's worth it just to see the brilliant drchips put a wannabe "haxor" in his place. _X_X_X_X_X_[small] JMLS-166S/Plextor PX-708A/Plextor Premium My Movies! http://www.intervocative.com/dvdcollection.aspx/Rephaim[/small]
As a newbie, I thought it was just me, not understanding what was written. Perhaps not! Anyway, thanks for all your informative opinions and the advice past on to all that may read.
Actually I think what we should do for all these "cool" people is just give them answers with as many technical terms and abbreviations as we can fit in without going off topic. Then we can tell them that if they put their question in English we'll do the same with the answer. And I don't mind the non-English speaking members here. They don't always get the grammar right but the general ideas often get stated more clearly than many of the posts by people who have spoken it all their lives. Plus they don't mind clarifying if you need it.
hey verbal how about with every inacurate post we send them a dictionary or even better we get you to correct it for them showing them the error of there ways or should i say spelling
You could always just give them a link to Dictionary.com and explain that it will solve their problems. In case anyone's taking notes and hasn't figured it out, yes I can be just as mean as I am long winded. 8D I'd blame it on my years working help desk jobs, but that's not really true. I've been mean a lot longer than that. Edit: As another alternative you could always retype their post, changing the abbreviations into whatever words seem to fit, regardless of the actual word that was intended. But really, I'd have to be in a pretty bad mood already to do anything but ignore them. Especially since, personal satisfaction aside, it's not that productive to antagonize people without a better reason. Now if they were rude at the same time that would be different. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a night. Ya this seems to be a weekly complait (sp?). The types of posts I love but haven't seen too much here are: Theonesthatdonthaveanyformofspaceorpunctationandcan'tbereadifyourlifedependedonit. See if you can read that one, I used to get some of those else were. The complaint was a Mac to PC switch, but I know thats junk.
