Ok, I have been burning DVDs using different softwares for some time and have never encountered a DVD I could not copy. Now I have an educational DVD that I bought and want to back up. The DVD is divided in different lectures and some lectures are subdivided in chapters. When trying to use different softwares: DVDshrink - redundancy error DVDvault - unable to copy DVDFab - able to extract it to the hardware. When burning using Vault the chapters of two lectures are in a wrong order and the movie (copy) keeps looping back to the beginning of the chapter. DVDcloner unable to do anything. DVDclone 2 with AnyDVD - gave me the best result but not good enough. It was able to extract the lectures and burn them in a DVD When checking the copy: in one chapter that was not working at all with the other systems it just froze at the last chapter. Another topic at the end of the DVD froze after a few seconds. If try to copy the copy with DVDclone2 I get redundancy error. When analyzing the copy I see that the last chapters last only a few seconds. The original is new, the burner is clean. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks
Hi mlannes hmmm I have one suggestion you can try - dvd decrypter. Rip in iso mode - this will create a 1:1 image. Go to Mode>iso>read. If you're using a single layer disc and this educational DVD will fit on one w/o compresssion then you can burn it with decrypter. Go to mode>write and pick the mds file that decrypter created. Otherwise you can open the iso in Shrink (file>open disc image) May work and decrypter is free.
Hi thanks for the suggestions. I had not tried DVD decrypter before because I was unable to find a site to download. Other links I had tried would lead me to inactive sites. The one you gave worked fine and I will try your method. The DVD is not big; about 3.1 GB. Meanwhile I managed to find a solution. I managed to download the whole disc to my HD using DVDFab. Then using CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD I was able to locate the shots where a number appears to announce a subchapter. I think these were the source of the problem since the copie d movie would often freeze when showing them and they were all out of order. Maybe this is something that they used to prevent copying. After using the preview feature on CloneDVD2 to locate those short images I simply deselected them and burned the movie to a DVD-R without them. The DVD lectures came out fine. In two chapters I get the image of a hand with a text saying "click here to continue playing" and when I click it the movie goes on fine. Let's see if with the DVD decrypter I can copy without doing those steps. Thanks again
Can you not just copy the VIDEO_TS file to the hard drive by opening the disc up in windows explorer and dragging/dropping it. Then burn using any host of programs such as Nero? Or even just run a disc to disc copy?
well thats normally the case but not all DVD are encrypted and can not just be copied. Just wondered if that may be the problem, he/she is trying to decrypt something when its not needed. If you have had problems like me with some of the dvd copying anythign has got to be worth a go! Especially as its described as educational, (unless that is meant to be tongue in cheek!!)
i have an idea for you, i just discoverd this great software! i dont know how widely known it is, knowing me its probably very well known! the trial is fully functioning and will copy your DVD and rip to hard drive or DVD. you choose, i love this software!! Hi, BTW, I am a he ). The DVD is on acute cardiac care and yes it is crypted otherwise I would not have gone through all the trouble of testing 6 different softwares. If you just try to use a simple copying software it will say that the DVD is protected. Medical DVDs are often composed of multiple conferences and sometimes short movies using actors that illustrate the clinical conditions explained in the talks. So there are several menus and submenus. I have the feeling that in this particular DVD some false pauses were introduced that made difficult to copy it.
^^ have you tried "magic DVD Copier" ?? the link i dropped above? i shouldnt think several menus and sub menus would make a big difference to most DVD copiers, infact no difference. have u managed to rip the DVD to your hard drive?? if so i suggest making an iso from the VIDEO_TS files and mounting the iso with daemon tools or similar image mounting software. and see if that runs fine?
Hi everybody. I already succeeded in copying the DVD by first downloading it to the HD with DVDFab then using DVDclone2 I removed the pauses that were causing the problem. Doing this I was able to burn it. Thanks for the link for MagicDVDCopier Falonga. I could not test it for this DVD because I don't have it anymore but I will try this software with another DVD.
