Well as the title says I'm encountering a problem where I can't manage to completely update my system from a new xbox 360 back-up dvd.

I believe I have the 1.5 patch of iextreme. The new back-up dvd was wave 3, but I patch it with PPF and it now works. But this new general X-box update just doesn't want to finish updating. Its preventing the game from running.

when I insertt the dvd it tells me to install a update (which I say ok to), then it says "This update failed. Clean the cd and restart the console." First the disk is new and clean so that can't be true and restarting does nothing.

But the patched worked half way cause my destop changed from the old one to the new one (looks a bit more kid friendly, but i dislike it for now).

Anyway my idea is a direct download from Xbox website followed by coping the patch onto a flash and installing in that manner. I tried doing it the dvd method but that didnt work out :(, i probably didnt choose the data dvd option.

But I'm not sure if that works, was wondering if anyone encountered the problem before and how they resolved it. Tried searching the forum but whent to page 8 with no results or I'm blind. Thanks for any assistance

I would suggest getting a original game from the list HERE and updating it that way.

    Hope this helps.

if you patched a wave 3 game to play on 1.5 or lower then that means you removed the part of the disc that contains the update and thats why it wont finish. this is why doing the wave 3 patch is not recommended.

thanks for the replies. Anyway I did it just as I wanted to by downloading the official patch off the xbox website and using a usb to upgrade. worked like a charm.

I got the exact same problem, you dont mind describing more detailed how you solved it? I cant find the upgrade on xbox homepage and I dont know where to go from there either...

XBOX homepage? Not sure what you mean. 1.6 is a custom firmware, you need to flash your box.

Just got it right.. Just connected the xbox to the internet and it downloaded the update by itself and now the "clean the disc"-problem is gone... (Hade used the disable wav3 patch as the thread-creator)
