By the way do you use the quality enhancement option? Compress with adaptive error compensation (sharp, smooth ...) I have used smooth in the past but I don't know if it makes a difference

You can get better ratio by getting rid of the credits and the crap at the beginning.

Yeah I rencoded the main movie only at 69.4% and I don't see any choppiness now. The thing that puzzles me is why would about 70MB of menus and extras make a difference. What's the difference between 68% and 69.4% compression? It doesn't seem much but it is. Or could it be the fact that I was encoding extras at a different compression than the main movie makes the bigger difference? It would still be nice to keep the menus (don't care about the extras). I am happy for now, but I would still like to try another encoder for comparison. Any ideas?

I used DVDShrink for the longest time but now i am using Nero Recode2. It has been said that the author of DVDShrink is the Author of Recode2 and works for Nero now. That is why a updated version of DVD Shrink hasent been released. So if you have Nero 6 ultra try using Recode2. The only thing about that is you would have to rip the files using DVD Decrypter or use AnyDVD which i use both of them programs. Cause Recode2 dosent do copy protected disc. So you need one of them 2 programs to make Recode2 work.

Alright now how do you explain the illegal disc problem that I am getting when I try to burn the video files with nero6. I have updated my drive firmware and low speed burning will not work either. apparently I have heard others have had this problem as well. By the way i don't have nero recode.

Just checked and you can buy it of walmart/barnes and nobles etc. Where did you come up with that statement?

i got my version in chinatown, a region 3 Edko version of house of flying daggers, 2 disc set.

I made a back up of it using shrink, but its an HD transfer of the dvd and had to be compressed a lot I had to remove the dts track, I might play around with it again and see if I can compress less.

One of the movies I am trying to back up has a fairly low compression (60%) with shrink. I know the movie apart from the main title has a narrative by some guy that basically plays the whole movie while some guy is talking about production etc. It is all in one disc and this narrative is part of the special features. However when Shrink opens it it all appears under the main title and the extras don't really constitute much. Even if I remove them the best I can get is about 63%. I wonder if you can somehow find a way to separate this narrative from the main with shrink to gain in quality or if any other software does it. ANyone?

You should be able to do that in the audio track section. One of them should be the the narration track which can be removed. At least it usually is that way.
