TMPGEnc - Analyzing?

    I've finally gotten succes and am creating my own SVCDs following the excellent guide but I have another question.

    What the heck is TMPGEnc doing during the time ANALYZING is on the screen? I've noticed that this takes up 50% of the time and it seems the actual encoding(?) takes up the last 50% which is about the same amount of time it took to create a VCD.

    Is the analyzing the part that makes the final output SVCD as opposed to VCD?

    Sorry for the dumb question, all I know is what I read in the guides.
