Hi, Iam trying to convert a mpeg2 file to a vcd file using TMPGEnc. On opening the mpeg2 file, only the video opens. If i try giving the same file as source to the audio button it does not open. What should I do? Thanks for the help. Regards L:shen.
What Type of audio does the Mpeg-2 file have??? If it is Dolby AC3 then you are going to have to demultiplex the Mpeg-2 file into seperate audio and Video files and then decode the AC3 audio to Wav format and then use that as the audio source... You can Find the Demultiplex in Tmpgenc by going to "File" to "Mpeg Tools" to "Simple Demultiplex" and to decode the AC3 audio to Wav format you will have to use something like "Headac3he" or "BeSweet" or if you PM me I can send you a small tool that will decompress AC3 audio to WAV format for you....
A simple trick: open the MPEG-2 eith VirtualDubMPEG-2, set Audio in Full Processing Mode avoiding to choose any compression and do File__Save WAV. In few minutes you'll have a WAV file, as long as the movie. If the 'WAV' is approx 10 MB x "length in minutes" large (1200 MB for a 120' movie) the .WAV file you extracted is a true uncompressed WAV and therefore you can load it as 'audio input' in TMPGenc. If the 'WAV file' is 100-200 MB instead, the audio is a compressed audio renamed WAV because VirtualDub and VirtualDub MPEG-2 don't indicate the correct file extension of the audio files. This case means that VirtualDub is unable to load the correct audio decompressor you'll have to use BeSweet or HeadAC3he (easier) Minion suggested you don uncompress that 'false WAV' to a 'true WAV' or to a 'MP2 for SVCD' (44.1 kHz, instead of 48 kHz for DVDs).
Hi, Thanks to the both of you. I did try Vdub before and the wav did not open. The clue about the compression, set me free. I wav from Vdub was indeed compressed. I de-ml'plexed and convertted the AC3 to wav using HeadAC3he. Now Tmpegnc imports and I do get a VCD output. One more question. I tried DVDx. It works but the quality is noware near to TMPEGnc. Are there other freewares that works as good as the TMPEGnc in converting mpeg files? Thanks once again! Regards Lishen.
Tmpgenc is the Best you can get for Free Mpeg encoders...It actually used to be free for Mpeg-2 encodeing also at one time long ago, but that was beck when it was in developement ..... Cheers
I have been told well of Cucusoft AVI to DVD VCD SVCD MPEG Converter Pro and Cinema Craft Encoder but they aren't free, as it was TMPGenc 2.5 'without MPEG-2 support' (Alas, TMPGenc Xpress hasn't any free version). Since the only drawback of TMPGenc is its speed and I usually make it work at night on 'batch' mode, while I'm sleeping, I never felt the necessity to change software. More, TMPGenc has very good plugins (DVD2AVI to convert VOB --> (S)VCD, AC3ACM to load AC3 files...) that, once one knows how to use them, make it very versatile. Sorry, I don't know more clues...
Hi, Now I've converted the mpeg2 files to VCD and have burned them.Iam however not really happy with the quality of the output. The image quality is very good. But on movemenyt, the picture is jerky. Say a pan from left to right, is moving in step motions. What should I do about it? Thankyou for your kind co-operation. Regards Lishen.
Well generally you should not get any Jumpyness With VCD files unless you converted your Source file useing a Different Frame Rate than the source file Like when encodeing Pal to NTSC.... If this Jumpyness is only on your DVD Player But they Play fine on your PC then the problem could be that the Bitrate is sometimes spikeing Higher than your DVD player can handle which is a common problem with VCD and SVCD"s.... I suggest that if you want high Quality and Trouble Free Playback then Invest the $45 and get a DVD burner, I actually picked up a couple DVD burners last Month for $25 each so they are pretty Cheap and Doing DVD"s is Cheaper than doing VCD"s or SVCD"s because because the Blank DVD-r"s are only about 0.25c each in Bulk and you can Burn up to 4 Full VCD movies on a single DVD-R which would Take up to 6 or 8 CD-R"s to do..... Cheers
