I've been converting some old avi files I downloaded about two years ago to mpg but I've encounterd that some files I can't open with TMPGEnc or for that matter any other converter. The extention says its an .avi file but when I compare these files to the rest in PROPERTIES I can see that the files that do work show me the size of the source and the type of compression while the files that dont work do not. Can someone tell me how to fix this problem?

This has worked for me. Open TMPGenc, click on "Options"/ "Environmental settings"/ VFAPI plug in" . Change the "Direct Show Multimedia" setting to a priority of 2.
